No, it's not at all like using the 'N' word. It presumes that the term in question is derogatory. (It would help if you specified which one you object to)

"Neo-conservative" is a perfectly reasonable label for a specific political ideology (see PNAC, e.g.). It is a term that has been used by some neo-cons to describe themselves. Much like the term "liberal", it has gained a negative connotation only because people who strongly disagree with the ideology use it as a perjorative. The main problem with the term is that some people use it generically to refer to conservatives or Republicans. I don't think that's a big problem here. Most people using "neo-con" are referring specifically to the Bush administration and its supporters who endorse their so-called neo-conservative ideology.

If you're objecting to "neo-fascist", I suggest again you put your historic stereotypes aside and take an objective look at the defining characteristics of the fascist ideology. I truly believe you will find the Bush administration's ideology has far more in common with the tenets of fascism than with conservatism. As I said before, it is too much effort to explain this repeatedly so I've mostly stopped using it. Nonetheless, I believe the term is more accurate than not.

Finally, if you're objecting to "Bushie", I don't know what to tell you. In and of itself, it suggests nothing except support for Bush. The story changes when certain adjectives are used in conjunction with "Bushie", but that's true for most words.

Thanks for your generosity, but I'm not understanding what you're talking about. I don't recall your pointing out the "error in [my] thinking" in the past, and I don't get it here either.

As I already said, I don't think CsG is a major offender - in fact I think he's generally reasonable - nor do I hold myself out as an example of perfection in discourse. What I bemoaned, and continue to bemoan, is the general lack of civility. I think in the main I have practiced what I preach, though again I have surely been imperfect in that respect.

Why don't you just say what you're thinking about me, rather than telling me to "STFU," and PM-ing others with snipes at me? I'd rather deal with your feelings head-on than speculate about what you're talking about.

I was only mentioning CsG by name because his cryptic "RBH" was what prompted my comments. In general I think he's a good citizen. I have in fact made similar comments directed toward both sides of the aisle, and as such received a series of absolutely scathing PMs from a liberal member who no longer posts here.

In fact, several months ago I joined with a number of liberal and conservative posters here and proposed a mod-monitored program to try to improve the tone of the discussions here - the mods weren't interested in implementing it, however.
