If NewEgg has shipping centers around the country, why ship my GPU order from CA?

Not too long ago Anandtech did a special feature article on NewEgg and in it described how NewEgg has shipping centers all across the nation so as to ensure that speedy shipping of your items to you!

That must be why my 2nd Day UPS order placed yesterday, to be delivered here on the East Coast, was shipped from:

Rowland Warehouse
17708 Rowland St.
City of Industry,CA 91748

Now, it did ship today, and I do expect to see it the 2nd Day (tomorrow), but what are the odds?

Also, wouldn't it have been much quicker to ship it from a warehouse on the East Cost?
Not to mention in the long run it would be cheaper since you know UPS will bill their account for the air transport required to ship it to me in 2 Days (assuming they actually do get it to me tomorrow and don't whore me over the weekend).

This is for an eVGA 7900GT, about the most common GPU purchase today, so certainly something their warehouses should stock in at least some quantity.

I'm going to assume certain warehouses are more likely to house certain items as it makes no sense to stock every item in every warehouse. I've also noticed some of my orders from Newegg shipping from NJ and some from CA even though they are from the same order. There's also probably some logistics and cost reason for doing it the way they do.

I'm on the east coast and all the 2nd day shipments I have ordered have been shipped from CA. All have arrived on time though. They are probably just closer to the airport hub there or something.

Two day shipping does not include the day it was shipped on, so from today to tomorrow would be one day, and then tomorrow to monday is the second day.

I believe Newegg only has two main warehouses, one on each coast. I think they're supposed to be building one maybe in the Midwest, but most of their products come out of California or New Jersey.

It depends where they have the item and where it makes most sense for them to allocate it from. Maybe the closer shipping centers don't have that item in stock.

I just ordered several PC components from newegg. Building my sister a new PC.

The majority of the components are coming from New Jersey. The case, is coming from Tennessee, and the motherboard is coming from California. What's the big deal? Just track it. I can understand your excitement for your PC part(s) coming, but there is such a thing called, being toooooo impatient.

Anyway, to give you an idea, I ordered all my parts on Tuesday this week, after 12pm.
Total of 9 components. I got the first seven parts from Jersey today early afternoon, (Thursday). I am tracking the other parts and their due dates. The case from TN will be here tomorrow, and the mobo from California will be here on Monday. And I didn't choose 2nd day.

You are missing a small but important distinction.

What darkswordsman described is correct - "Two day shipping does not include the day it was shipped on, so from today to tomorrow would be one day, and then tomorrow to monday is the second." That's correct. However this is "2nd Day" shipping, which implies that you will receive the package the second day it has the status of Shipped. That would be tomorrow, since it has shipped today (the 1st Day it is in the Shipped status).

Time for a grammar lesson. "Second Day" is synonymous with "Day Two", and both mean "on the second day of the week", in this case the second day of the week in which the package is in shipping (ie, the second day the item is in Shipped status).

"Two Day" however, refers more directly to two full 24-hour periods of time, as darkswordsman correctly pointed out. Alas, it looks like we are dealing with Two Day shipping mislabeled as 2nd Day (unless of course the package arrives here at some point tomorrow).

To answer your question: If you want to be grammatically correct, Next Day means the package will arrive the day after the order is put through or the day after it is shipped, depending on the way the site defines the starting point of the timer. Thus Next Day is either synonymous with Overnight or with 2nd Day, depending on the way the site defines it. It ships from whatever warehouse has the product that you want. I think it'll choose the closest one to your house, but if that one doesn't have it it'll default to the other one that does have it. Mine normally ship from NJ (I live in NY) and with 3 day select, I get them in 2 days.

Most of you are correct. For increased efficiency, we'll usually ship from the warehouse closest to the destination address. However, if a certain warehouse lacks inventory, then it will ship from the next best location, even if it's on the other side of the US.

Of course this shouldn't cause any delays, but for those of you that are used to receiving your packages a day or two early, you might just get it delivered on time.

Also, over 95% of our orders ship the same day placed; however, on rare occasions, any package may take 24 to 48 hours to process before actually shipping.

Yes and I'm surprised such a common and highly purchased item wouldn't be stocked in at least one warehouse on each coast.

you obviously have not shipped many things using UPS, USPS, FedEx and whatnot, and thus, you seem to be missing my point.

Please, before you go about complaining and arguing about 2nd day, 2 day shipping or whatever AND arguing about grammer AND incorrectly blaming NewEgg, go look at different couriers' shipping forms first. you will find that the terminologies used (i.e. 2nd day, next day, ground shipping, etc.) are established by the shipping courier, NOT NewEgg... and THEY (the courier services) establish that:
NEXT DAY DELIVERY = delivery scheduled for the day after shipping
2ND DAY = delivery scheduled 2 days after shipping date

if you can't seem to understand what everyone else knows, eh... as you said, can't help you there.

C'mon! The world doesnt work that like. Each industry has its own terminology. Not everything is grammatically correct. Grammar rules change over time to reflect real world usage. (i.e. sneaked =>snuck - which I believe was okied for english use)

To think that everything is what is grammatically said is ridiculous. That would just open up a whole can of worms of misplaced modifiers causing lawsuits and shannagins!

Also, it helps not to have grammar errors in your posts while you complain about grammar.

well for one thing, city of industry is just up the freeway from long beach port. busiest port in the country probably.

seeing as a LOT of goods newegg buys probably comes from china/ taiwan on ships....

that woudl probably mean... it would be a lot cheaper to leave most of them in city of industry. especially heavier stuff like cases , monitors, and video cards with larger boxes.

the east coast one, probably all depends on the location of their suppliers. if their supplier is nearby to teh east coast warehouse, or say has a warehouse near neweggs then they probably would move some stuff there.


i mean if there is a supplier based on the east coast that say makes... cases, it would probalby be cheaper to truck them to new jersey, and then ship them to the east coast, then say first truck it to california, then truck it back out again to the east coast. its probably not a big deal with small stuff like CPUs via fedex saver.

im sure eery $1 saved on shipping probably is millions in profits to newegg so im sure it all makes sense.

I dunno what ya call it but its a nice setup you can go in and order in the store and pick it up right then and there if its in stock, you even sign in on a comp they charge 5 bucks for willcall tho.
