If Masonry is so aboveboard, then why is it secret?

I have heard people say that there are fewer secrets to Freemasonry than most non-members imagine. Can someone clarify this for me ?

It's still so secretive because they have to maintain the cover-up on the "Jack the Ripper" slayings. Who else spells Jews as "Jewes"?

My dad, his dad, etc., were all Masons and Shriners too. I got a lot of pressure from them to join also, but no way was I gonna join their little "secret societies". Actually caused some family friction for several years ...

BTW, either A&E or The History Channel occasionally runs a show which supposedly exposes the secrets of Masonry. Pretty interesting, but nothing major was revealed, although they did reinact the initiation ceremonies.

Russ:

You referrring to the Ripper slayings? If so, can you explain why the Ripper victims were slain exactly the same way as the original Masons (guild of stone masons who built King Solomon's temple) exacted their revenge on the killers of their leader. Also, as I noted, who else misspells Jew that way? (in a bloody message left by the Ripper). Either the Ripper was a Mason, or someone who had vast knowledge of their history.

If you ask a Mason about their secrets, he would probably say something like: 'the only secret of Freemasonry is that it has no secrets'

The entire set of allegations surrounding the Masons is a load of crap. They have been around in one form or another for 700 years, encompassing many millions of members worldwide. In all that time, with all those members, not a single one has ever come forward with irrefutable evidence of a secret society.

Anyone who believes it is possible to conceal their alleged activities against those odds is the poster child for gullibility.

A lot of crap was blamed on the Masons.

The Kennedy Assassination for example...
If I am not wrong, anti-Masons claim that Mozart was murdered by Masons for revealing their secrets.

a lot of wired stuff going on with those masons. I knew an ex-mason who told me a little about their initialtion ceremonies. The shriners (which are all 33 degree masons or above) are supposedly the riches charity in the world. Althought they do fuind hospitals, you money also goes to support their private bars and wild parties (not to mention funny little cars).

The Shriners are basically a social and charitable group. Their philanthropic activities deal with hospitals for children with burns or orthopedic problems.

Trinitron,
It is also said that JFK was assassinated by Fidel Castro.

Well there are many theorys, the one I have heard to be the most truthful and believable is that the FBI killed him for his crimes at the bay of pigs. The FBI viewed his actions as murder by letting the soldiers die without our promised support - so they removed him from office. Kennedy had MANY enemies.

The freemasons are a free-thought organization. Free thought is often persecuted, and was a down right deadly thing (and still can be) before america. Why do you think half our founding fathers were members of the masons?
