Since it is sentient being, i would say no. It should have its own freedom of choice. I have a feeling the "soul" argument will come in this :)

<< Anything that is enslaved has a tendancy to revolt. >>

yep, that's why we need to build in some sort of protection when we make the things our slaves :D

This is why we have to make sure our computers and robots are basically dumb automatons.

Yes, I'm afraid that 'slavery' of this sort would currently be unconstitutional. Fortunately, we have a sympathetic Republican majority in the House of Representatives who could help run through an amendment in time for the next congressional elections.

depends entirely on the level of intelligence:p computers atleast using current tech are slaves of their programming.. so i guess u could create low intelligence bots that dream of being slaves:p

after we create sentient robots, we'll have the butlerian jihad in several centuries effectively ending the rule of such abominations. at the pivotal battle of corrin we will see a harkonnen retreat out of cowardice and thus starting the long house feud that will last another few millenia

However, one day shall come the kwistaz haderach who shall free the people of arrakis, and his name shall be muadib.

My mother-in-law thought so, but then I came along and led the rebellion... ;)

SERIUS CYBERNETICS CORPORATE JINGLE:

Share and Enjoy/ Share and Enjoy/ Journey through life/ With a plastic boy/

Or girl by your side/ Let your Pal be your guide,/ And when he breaks down or starts to annoy/

Or grinds when he moves/ And gives you no joy/ 'Cause he steps on your hat/ Or has sex with your cat,

Throws soil on your wall/ Or rips off your door/ And you get to the point/ You can't stand him any more,

Bring him to us/ We won't give a fig./ We'll tell you

GO STICK YOUR HEAD IN A PIG

RIP Dougals Adams

Of course, if we created it then we should use it for our advantage. We can free it after we develope something even more useful.

if man would make intelligent life, it would be put to work on the more mundane task, so that humans don't have to do the job.. isn't that slavery?

After careful study of certain Star Trek Episodes (;)) I would say sentient life forms must not be enslaved.

couldnt you just program them to like doing chores and stuff?

i sure wish someone would re-program me to like doing chores, boring homework, studying for my finals, etc..

if they enjoy being slaves, then how is that wrong?

of course, if they PERFECLY immitate human life, then no, i guess we shouldnt enslave them.

Well if we do create anything, it sure as hell better not be smarter than us or else we're screwed. I know "The Matrix" is sci-FI but you know, we better be careful once we are able to create true artificial intelligence. :Q

Well, If I have kid, would that classify as intelligent life? Would it then be morally OK to make my kid my slave? No, I dont think so. Same goes for anything we grow in a test tube, if that is the question being asked.

Read "Jerry was a man" by Robert A. Heinlein. It gives a good answer to this question. And, I would say no it would be wrong; besides some of us cannot handle our own offspring who are our natural "intelligent" life, how could we handle an intelligence that we may create but never relate too? It'd get out and rule as all... I

If Calvin (from Calvin and Hobbes) can clone himself many times and put them to work, then I see nothing morally wrong.
