Ditto'ed.

Que Mac/Linux fans upset that someone made a thread hailing microsoft for a change.

That's like saying thank you to ford for making one car and forcing everyone else out of the business, so that every car uses the same parts and mechanics all over the world all know how to fix the same car.

I must agree...will some of microsofts software is buggy from time to time, I have rarely encounted these and have no real issue with microsoft....hell I even found Windows ME to be a reasonable operating system, very reliable when I was using it a few years back.

Automobiles have quite a different history than office applications. Pick a better comparison.

The only real problem I have with Windows is that you can't change the OS language like you can with OSX unless you have the multilanguage pack, which most people don't.

The problem with that analogy lies in the fact that you don't buy microsoft computers.

Now if you were to buy any make of car you wanted, and you could put a ford engine in it... or a toyota engine in it... and then run mazda transmission on it...

You see?

I thank MS for giving me a job (not directly but supporting their products as a sys admin) and few million other people around the world who have jobs because of Microsoft.

Wouldn't it be better if they used an open format though? Then you could share documents with anyone regardles of how much money they have.

a toyota engine with a mazda tranny? Wouldn't that be like win32 apps working on a *nix OS? Thank you Microsoft for making sure 80% of desktop applications won't run on any other OS 😕

And Microsoft Office docs are proprietary to Microsoft Office and is one of the few office suites that doesn't support open formats (like OpenOffice and Abiword does) last I knew.

Those are insane discounts! I got my Win XP Pro for $85 and office 2003 for $75 with my discounts. Where did you go for those?? I'm looking to build another computer before I graduate and lose the discounts.

No, but it would be like a video card running on a Dell computer with Windows XP
