If im buying a new mobo/cpu/video card, pci/agp?

I've been doing alot of research lately, trying to decide between what to do.....Should I go with dual channel, or single ram? Should I use that wacky new PCI slot or stay with the reliable AGP? It seems that new GeForce FX 6600 GT AGP card is more expensive than the PCI one. But then again, it seems that the Ram for the pci slot mobo could be a bit more expensive....Either way I was planning on buying 1gb would of ram. Is this a good upgrade for me?

Im currently using a P4 2.4 Ghz with 256 RDRAM. I have a Geforce FX 5200. Will I have a drastic performance difference with what Im planning? Thanks in advance for all the help, this board seems very helpful 🙂

Hi Prizmdrop and Welcome to the Forums!

Dual Channel (DC) or single ram? Not quite sure what you are asking here? The combo you linked above, the socket 939 amd MSI mobo, is a DC system. The socket 754 is single channel. But many peeps prefer the socket 939 (DC capable) because it will have more of an upgrade path. Although to me the 754 seems a better bang-for-buck route, especially if you usually upgrade mobo's when you upgrade cpu's.

Yes, I think you will see a huge/drastic perfromance increase.

Are you planning on updating this computer over the next couple of years? If so, you may want to get a PCI-e board. Otherwise, if you just plan on buying a new system every couple of years, then it really doesn't matter (whichever is cheaper/more accesible). Also, do you want to wait for the AMD PCI-e boards (nforce4)? They will probably not be available for a week or two and stil, I would wait a month or so to check all the reviews and make sure it is really worth it.

IMHO, if you're going with a socket 939 for (performance) and upgradability you might as well get a PCI-e mobo and vid card too. The PCI-e (6600GT) card is cheaper than the (6600GT) AGP also.

AFAIK, they are just coming out now (this month). So, I'd wait a little to see the feedback on the various mobo's by the community b4 I picked one.

The nForce4s are going to be the first available (within the next couple of weeks, hopefully). As I stated earlier, I would definately wait for some reviews to make sure you are buying te best board from the best manufacturer.
