If I use and HDTV for my computer monitor....

What will be my maximum resolution in windows? 1360x728?. I am thinking of a DVI-I to HDMI cable from my 8800GTS to the set.

Probably a stupid question but oh well I don't know. I know the HDTV does 1080i as well so maybe.

I think that's about right.
I've done it before, but it was really a novelty thing. It was a high 20 or low 30" screen, and it was pretty useless for reading any kinds of words. Playing WoW was sweet, but anything other than home theater or gaming would be unenjoyable. Blowing up that resolution that much makes it difficult.

edit: also, I remember it (recent Samsung display) did this thing where it cut off like 10 or so pixels on each side.

More likely it is 1280x720, which is more common for HDTV (and HD-DVD). 1366x768 is typically a PC resolution (WXGA).

Almost all "720p" TVs are 1366x768. WXGA is 1280x800

Every single 720p DLP that I've seen is 1280x720. My 720p DLP is 1280x720 as well. Silly LCD and Plasma 720p HDTVs are the oddballs 😛.

I hooked my PC up to my 50 inch 720p DLP via DVI and it looked pretty good. IT was clear enough to read everything. I don't know if i would ever keep it that way because sitting 6 feet away from a 50 inch or 1.5 feet away from my 22" monitor... i chose monitor

They are truly the oddball displays. 720p Plasma HDTVs and many LCD HDTVs (probably the majority) use WXGA PC resolutions such as 1366x768. 1366x768 is not even true 16:9 and must discard pixels horizontally and vertically.

HDTV 720p format is exactly 1280 x 720 pixels. HDTV 1080p format is exactly 1920 x 1080. See the pattern? 720 = 720 and 1080 = 1080 (NOT 720 = 768).

As you note, almost all 720p DLP are the correct 1280x720, as are numerous LCD projection HDTVs.

You are partially correct, the majority of 720p LCD HDTVs and Plasma HDTVs are 1366x768. I had it mixed up. There are even weirder resolutions found on some plasma HDTVs.

From Wikipedia:

"Wide XGA (WXGA) is a set of non standard resolutions derived from the XGA display standard by widening it to a wide screen aspect ratio. WXGA is generally understood to refer to a resolution of 1366×768, with an aspect ratio of 16:9."

Edit: corrected even more of my mistakes...too many numbers for this early A.M.
