I agree with Miata.

@OP, it was just suspicious that you were talking about 55mph in first gear. Just because an engine has a tall gear and a high redline, that doesn't mean you should drive around in first gear. You'll blow the engine in a few weeks, tops.

If that's not what you meant, it was a very strange comment.

No that not what I meant, but I was just impress since my SUV can't even hit 55mph without being on 5th gear. It quite slow to get on the freeway. I'm impress cause I never drove a modern 6 speed manual or use a shifter that is precise and short.

Sorry for the confusion and I can see how you can find that strange. Glad I can clarify any misunderstanding ():)

Hey guys,

Had a weird conversation with my dad. He want me to least a 60K car because of many reasons but even though I'm not good with money, I think I'm going to pass on spending that much.

There are two new contender that I recently were made aware off since I'm more of a SUV/Truck guy. They are the Focus RS (first time on U.S soil) and the Subaru WRX AWD (good for Colorado) that really peak my interest.

I think leasing make a lot of sense since I don't plan on tuning or doing any modification on it like I would with an off-road vehicle. I could really enjoy American cars without worrying about its problem later on in its life style.

I am however also going to get a 2nd job. I'm having an interview next week for my local storage which is a job I would enjoy doing and allow me to move anywhere in the state. This 2nd job is not so I can buy a GT350 but just so I can have more money to do whatever I want. Also looking at the insurance rate for the GT350...no way.

Right now I'm considering the WRX over the Miata maybe because Miata feel unsafe and is too small for practical reason. WRX is big yet small and nimble enough where I can comfortably have my friends join me for a nice long road trip with excellent 35mpg!

Thank you for the explanation

To followup with your replies. I already graduated from a good university. I don't care about opening a small business. I don't care about owning a home (I don't like being in one place too long). Pay off debts - you have a point there but I'm doing fine on that front.

If I were to drive my current car in the ground, I would be 67 years old before that things break down since I only drive 3500 thousand miles per year which is far less than the average. I bought this car a long time ago. It been 15 years now and the car is only at 80K to give you an idea. It would literally be my first and last car ever. I mean for an SUV, it is pretty dam fast but it no Mustang. There no point in buying a nice sport car when your old and can't drive it. My dad can no longer drive a manual car anymore.

Also why do I need a loan? I can pay it off monthly pretty easily.

 Do you know what a loan is?

Also, you only drive your current car 3500 miles/year, yet you somehow think you need a freaking Shelby GT?

This has to be the dumbest idea I have read on At forums. :D

I'd get a Golf R or Focus RS before looking at the WRX (or STI). Especially if it is going to be your primary car.

You're not going to get an RS unless you (a) are willing to pay an exorbitant markup ($10K+), (b) are already on a waiting list and have paid your deposit, or (c) get EXTREMELY lucky to find a dealer who had a buyer pull out at the last minute. Nobody knows if they will be selling a 2017 version. They probably will, but given the fact that the 2016s are arriving so late this year it's hard to determine when the 2017s would be available.

The WRX would be a solid choice especially since you drive so infrequently (they often have ringland failures as they approach 90K-100K miles).

I do know what a loan is. I hate it by the way. The thing is the reason why I drive my car less than 3500 miles a year is cause it boring to drive. When I drive, even big vans drive pass me. My SUV is so slow and so boring to drive. It is after all a soccer mom SUV. When I drove my dad Camry (yes I know it a camry), I had around 13,000 miles/year so it not that I don't drive much, it the fact that I don't like driving a boring car.

I can literally no longer drive a Camry because it sooo boring but it still faster than my SUV. I love to drive and when me and my friends go on road trip, I always want to be the driver and that is why I need a driver vehicle and not a point A to point B vehicle.

I do want a Shelby GT but I'll settle for a 30K vehicle. Shelby GT isn't my dream car since that would be the Porsche 911 and GTR Nismo which I would be at the race track often.

Having a more powerful car will not make you any faster or slower on the interstate. I understand the desire for a driver's car though.

How about an older Lotus Elise? That's pretty much as driver's-car as you can get. I've considered one, and would drive it every day, though I'd strongly consider a Honda K-swap.

For a road trip? Not so much, but I love folding myself in ways I didn't know I could bend to get in one.

EDIT: In case you were wondering, I'm not serious.
