on that point it look s like they will replace my 9800 pro with a 6600GT (its got sm3.0 😉 ), its a bit faster at the res's i usually play for most games so no real complaints (tho i suspect my 9800pro still ass pumped it at hl2, the game i play most atm 🙁 )

The SM3.0 bit is certainly at least as annoying as those who can't answer the simplest of questions and always have to pipe in with "Oh, don't buy that. Just get the whatever and flash it to such-and-such or overclock this and unlock that". These folks claim to have this and that, yet all their time seems to be spent online.

I have to say that I still have a bit of a sour taste in my mouth from the days of 3dfx when the Nvidia fangirls didn't want to talk about such things as quality of the image; they just wanted to talk about framerates. Now with such things as the X850XT PE, folks want to talk about SM3.0.

Too many 12 year olds down in the Video forumn. That's not just an AT thing; that's on any board.

If either company provides me with a nice bang-of-the-buck video card, I can care less on whether its from ATI or nvidia.

Right now ATI is the undisputed price/performance leader with the X800XL. Nuff' said.

Both companies have brought good products to the table this time. Nvidia had a lot further to go after its embarrassingly bad showing with the FX series, and they had more cards available early on.

I always find the flag ship pissing match comparisons a complete waste of time. Who actually buys those ultra over priced cards anyway? I don't, so I care less whose Ultra XT PE WATERMELON Edition Leet Plus card is fastest, I can't afford either one of them! I just want to know who owns the bang for the buck in various low and mid range segments. $150-200 AGP for instance.

OP: SM3.0 is irrelevant as a consideration for which video card to get.
