The new nVidia cards do pwn their ATi counterparts. SM 3.0 is simply one reason.
Which is a good thing any way. ATI downright p0wnED the last round of nVidia cards, and so its now nVidia's turn. As it should be. That way, both companies have hit the bottom and know defeat, only to come back with kick a$$ products the next round.
Its simple, buy 6xxx series cards if you want the best in gaming right now. You'll also be able to find them easier, and up until recently - it was the only card you could get in AGP. ATi has since caught up, but not before thousands of gamers across the world either : A) bought nVidia cause they had AGP, or B) bought nVidia because ATI didn't have jack in stock.

a little vent 😀 (and no, it's not really a FI post, because you can't stop idiots posting just because they are nvida (or an other company) fanbois 🙁 )
Discuss.

There's nothing wrong with the Radeon X series of cards, except for the fact that they didn't ship enough. Performance wise, each brand's top tier product is fine. nvidia 6series runs better in some apps, ati Xseries runs better in other apps (think Doom 3 vs HL2). People are just sheep and will argue anything, buy based on your needs.

basically the nvidia cards have this little xtra feature that allows them to use a slightly 'better' shader, problem is almost no games support this, and when it is enabled it becomes almost unplayable 😛
There's also the small point that sm2b (on the ATI cards) can do pretty much all that sm3 can do 🙂
but what gets me is that they don't know any of this, and won't listen if you tell them, basically the definition of fanboys 🙁

that ant that when i bring that up, they call you a fanboy and tell you not to troll or flame them.
here is an example
me
"Um yeah, ATI cards are faster at the top end,but dont support SM3.0, that means it wont play SM3 mode but therent many games taht use SM3 and SM2 is almost identical anyway. Unfortunately, there are some games that support only SM3 and SM1 so ATI owners may be SOL on some cards, but overall, SM3 isnt too important, it's just a easier way to program with the features of ps2.0"
