I have the same board and chip, 512MB of RAM, a 20GB and a 120GB hard drive, a cdrom and cdrw, an ata/133 controller card. a GF3 Ti200, a sound blaster live!, and a NIC. Im using an Antec 300W with no problems. And if you dont have enough juice, nothing will fry. Either the system wont boot at all or the computer may reboot at random times.

Worst thing I could think of by using a ps that might be too small is that you system may not be as stable under full load and maybe a random reboot everynow and then. Shouldn't fry anything. Everyone else is still gonna recommend that you get a ps that is at least 350w.

An AMD recommended 300 Watt psu should be enough for most standard setups (1 floppy, 1 cdrom, 1 hard drive, maybe 1 burner).
I haven't seen any problem yet and I have a 300Watt psu and I don't even think AMD even recommends it.

There are a lot of 300W psu's that will work with this board and the xp-cpu's, problems come in when you start to add components to the "standard" set up--(cpu, ram, vid, hd, cdrom, floppy, sound, modem/nic), especially when or if you oc the board. This is where a lot of problems arise with the non amd approved psu's. What ever psu you get, make sure that it's a quality one, not from "Jane's" bargin bin.

My two cents:

I've run an STL2 mobo with dual P3 933's, 1 Gb RAM (1 stick), FDD, Internal HDS, CD-ROM, vid card, RAID Adapter, and 10 internal 10000rpm drives with the 300W PS that came in the SC5000 chassis. Do I recommend it? Probably not. Does it work? Yes...it's been running in our test lab for over 2 months straight now.

the worst possible outcome might be that your comp sems to be running fine...but you experience certain strange and odd crashes/instabilities which you dont have an explanation for....and end up looking for what could be the culprit...while in reality it's the PSU which may be too weak with certain applications which cause heavy load on the XP, peripherals etc....

This is especially true if you plan on overclocking or tweaking your bios/ram settings to the max....i think 300w would be the bare minimum for an XP1800...so you'd basically always be at borderline stability with a high chance of "odd" crashes etc. which you wouldnt have otherwise.
