You wont lose any data. {edit: if you do it correctly}

What phone are you changing the screen on?

Some of them can be tricky, got a good guide?

Whenever there's any shred of possibility that you're going to lose data, always back up.

always

I don't care if somebody did the exact same thing 1000s of times in a row without issue, always have a backup.

do a backup. supposing your screwdriver slips and you stab the flash chip? anything could happen with the phone opened up.

I've no experience of moto phones. Is the glass, lcd and digitiser all fused/glued into one piece? If it is don't do it unless you get a full replacement unit (screen+lcd+digitiser and surrounding housing) unless you don't mind killing your phone and are a masochist.

Plug it into your pc and let it transfer them?

no its just the lcd that needs changing and thankfully its not fused to the digitizer.

when you transfer files do you have to do one at a time?

Depends on what you want to backup.

If it's just photos and videos I'd either just plug it into the PC and let windows automagically suck them out or let Google+ back them up to the cloud (actually I'd do both on a regular basis).

I use Google services for email, calendar, contacts and the like so they are independent of the phone anyway.

For sms/mms you might need sms backup+ if moto don't provide a solution.

I'd probably drag and drop the whole storage of the phone (internal sd and external sd) to a folder on my desktop as well just in case there's anything else that I forgot after doing a nandroid and titanium backup.

if all i care about are my photos (i dont really use this phone anymore) are dragging and dropping the best way? i dont know what nandroid and titanium backup are. how long will 600 photos take? i recall trying this before and quitting when it took so long...

Are the photos on an sdcard or the built in memory?

Dragging and dropping is fine.

(and back up more often in future ;) )

im not sure, probably built in memory, although there is a micro sd card in it as well

Its usually quicker to get things off the memory card by removing it and connecting it to the computer directly (card reader or adapter).
