IMO It's because spell check takes care of misspellings. I had to actually learn how to spell with a pencil and paper when I was a kid...does the same thing happen now?
 
I DEFINITELY agree with you for an amount of time that is inDEFINITELY too long to be considered a constant that is DEFINITELY a real number.

Agreed. Also, IMing and TXTing, where punctuation, capitalization, and grammer are virtually nonexistent, are speeding the decline.
