I wonder if there is a IP list of proxies? I'm trying to figure out how to ban Tor on my new forum, but I can't understand the instructions. I just added the toxic IP numbers from stopforumspam.com. The other lists are waaaay too big to add. I use phpbb 3.1 which is the latest and all the cool mods are for 3.0, like anti-spam acp. There might be a similar extension for 3.1 though I'll have to check. But I have the forum set up that the first post is set in the moderator queue and needs to be approved by the admin or mod to post. So right there that would stop a lot of spam and return members by checking their IP.

But cracking down on proxies and VPNs can be a double edged sword as someone like me and others on this board use the same service and I'm sure we have the same IP. One free VPN I was using must have been used by spammers on here because it got blocked. That was only the U.S server though. The Europe and UK server still worked.

For most forums it would be just check the IP address of a new user vs known proxies rather than trying to keep up with all proxies.

In the early days of AT most members had email and contact info listed.

We have become anon-like now.
 
Well, I just Goggled for proxy lists and there are a TON out there and I know knew ones get added all the time. I used to use them, half of which never worked. Then I went to SSH shell accounts, but that was slow. Need a forum personality matcher/banner. 🙂 LOL!

Not necessarily.

Scholzpdx just might have a different type of humor that he would find the same thing funny if it happened to him.

His comments above are not offensive in any way.

What I think matters in this situation is whether or not Scholzpdx does this again sometime.
 
I wouldn't do it again. If it wasn't for the fiction and actual deaths on this forum I'm sure some people wouldn't be as butthurt. I guess we don't have the same taste in humor.

The whole point of the thread was to call out his fake "ignore" list because he replied to non-quoted posts from me several times in the past. Not only was his Sig a running call-out on every post he ever made, but it wasn't true at all. He was allowed to post the names of users he didn't like right in his Sig!

The real test is if he saw his own "RIP in peace" thread. Hook, line, sinker...
