No, you do not need to reinstall XP for a CPU swap. Same goes for a CD-ROM, memory, or something like that. Really the only things that need it is a new mobo (although you *can* get it to work without, its ill advised), HD (duh).

Win2kPro? Better than XP? I think not - I've got both running on virtually identical computers, and Win2kPro is much slower and considerably less stable.

maybe you don't know how to make bench comparisons properly..

winxp is one of the worst OSes out there.

you want to get serious, get the win2kpro.

xp pro, without all the fruityness and shadowing it (win2K) is good enough. and the reason why you might see why 2k is slower because you have been running that os alot longer than xp. If you do a clean install of both, at standard settings, 2k will win.

Win2k is definitely faster, I am always confused why people choose to install XP if given a choice. I understand if XP is bundled with a new system then you generally live with it but if you can pick and choose, go for Win2k.

Win2K is faster than XP because it's less bloated.

There is one reason to use XP over Win2K. ClearType. But this only applies if you use LCD and actually like ClearType.

The WinXP installtion is almost 2 years old, and the Win2K installation is brand spanking new. I repeat, Win2K is much slower, and considerably less stable, than WinXP.

Then again, I'm a professional, perhaps I'm just better at it?

yep... my friend.

those who brag winxp don't have much experience in win2kpro and the rest of the OSes.. you need to get a good hang of each OS and do lots of benching then you'll know what os is better. winXP is for pretty look which a lot of general publics like.. it's easiler to use.. has more features... which in all slows the OS performance down.

yea, I guess my 20+ years of installing and configuring Microsoft and other operating systems indicates a general lack of knowledge about computers.

I stand by my statements. Under any circumstances, with the computers as identical as possible, and configured properly (!!!), WinXP is a better and faster OS than Win2KPro.

Incorrect. You may want to do some research before making such a foolish comment like that.

i've seen MeowCat alot on the forums with quick one sentence lines like "it sucks" "it's stupid" etc, i just want to know what your qualifications are MeowCat? like what do you do for a living (if that's where you get your info from), or how much exp do you have?

i'm not challenging any of your statements, cuz i'm definitely a nooB compared to most of you guys on the forums, but it just seems like you're the only pro (if indeed you are a pro), who seems to bash things and leave things opened ended without any support until someone questions it, then you start giving the details.

just wondering two things:
1) why you type the way you do
2) what is your background

cheers

no you are incorrect.

I don't need to do research. I am the research. I am the book. I have experience in all of these operating systems. Win2k is faster than the winXP. winxp stinks...

You're a bad joke and any experience you may have is wasted by your bad attitude. This combined with your black and white opinions that are based upon only your experience (which may be due to your ineptitude) lead people to wholly ignore whatever you say.

You have no credibility. Log out, clear cache. Cya.
