There really is no performance increase/decrease if you do. You should be fine.
Unless you mobo supports ata133, then it would just fall down to ata100. If you mobo supports only ata100, then it doesn't matter

ata133/100 doesn't make any significent difference at all. maxtor's claim of a performance increase over ata 100 was a myth years ago and it still is.
