If I have a cable modem does that mean I also have free basic cable?

I always thought that if a person had a cable modem then they automatically also had free basic cable. Just recently I tried splitting the signal between my modem and the TV but the reception for the cable feed was extremely fuzzy. The channels were there but there was so much static it was unwatchable. Do I need a signal booster or are the cable companies no longer providing basic cable with their internet packages?

I've never done it, full cable is paid for legaly here, but I've known a few to get full cable in ways less than legal.

I don't think any of the cable companies INTENTIONALLY give you free basic.

However, until digital completely replaces analog cable, they have no choice but to let you have access to the basic stream.

It's a technology thing. They have much more control over digital cable than analog.

Comcast Cable uses traps (filters) To block out waht you do not pay for. So if you want cable Pay for it.

I know with Cox you pay an extra $10 a month for HSI if you don't have cable, so it's just as easy to get basic service and HSI and pay about the same.

I receive my phone service via the coax cable from the cable tv company. I don't have cable tv service. One day I was messing around with the box and hooked a coax cable up and ran it to my tv. Sure enough, there was basic cable, clear and unscrambled. I thought about leaving it hooked up, but I got concerned about them monitoring bandwidth usage.

i have comcast now.

with comcast, internet + Basic service is CHEAPER than Internet alone.

you should call them about getting set up for basic service. only 33 channels tho.

Every cable company can filter out whatever cable channels they want. The trick is to un-filter them. As long as you have a live cable line going into your house the only reason why you are not getting every analog station(HBO, STARZ, etc) is because the cable company has filters installed somewhere blocking those channels.

you probably have a filter on your box, which is why you're not receiving the free channels. Just pay the money and get cable..nothing in life is free.

It's not cheaper.

Basic service is 12$. If you have both Cable internet and Basic CableTV, they take 10$ off your bill, making it virtually free.. 2$.

I had my cable internet service re-activated 2 weeks ago, internet only. No tv. Just for grins I unhooked the modem and plugged the cable into an old 13" tv.

I have basic cable.

It works fine in Riverside, CA. And I know that only because I got cheap friends that get cable modem just for the free cable tv.
