Well, I got my answer from my roomate. Its not original anymore, but I plan on paying..... in pennies. Its the best way to both pay my fine, and make all things right in the universe.

How old are we?

21. And it happens to be more a matter of situation, my roomate and I kept a bowl filled with all of our change. Anyway, I do what I want. They get their money, I get my cheap satisfaction. Deal with it.

And I still bet they refuse to take pennies.

And if they do, I will leave them in their place of work, tip my hat, and say good day. They are legally obligated to take any form of US currency.

They could get pixxed and jot down the plate numbers. Y'know, just to make sure you stay out of trouble in the future. Only doing it to help you, of course.

no they aren't. They can refuse to take payment however they see fit, but you still are required to pay.

OP you need to look on the bright side of this situation. I parked my car in the wrong place in Atlantic City and the city towed it. It cost me $60.00 cash on the spot to get my ride back so I could leave that place. At least your car was there when you woke up the next morning.

Hah, atleast you got 3 tickets for 3 parking spots. Although you do have to pay a bit more then me. :frown:

No, I have got numnerous tickets for being in the same spot. You'd think that there would be no meter maid at 1 AM in the morning to check if your car has a residential parking sticker. I was wrong.

FALSE. All forms of US issued currency are legal tender and can be used to settle any incurred debt. I guarantee they must take them.

QFT. Really. All you "bend over and take it" people, is that what you do your whole life? If your being shortchanged, like I feel I am, you should say or do something about it. And I plan on it.

Pennies in quantities of greater than 25 are not considered legal tender.

Yea, I just read Snopes. It was up until 1963 though!

yeah, JFK made them change it so he could pay for his hookers with pocket change.

So what you're telling me is that JFK's assassination was setup by the Pimp of his hookers, to get back at him for paying entirely with pennies and nickels?

:Q

Fine. Then have fun paying for the redemption costs and damages after paying with pennies.

And that doesn't prove they have to take them All it does is prove that they can recoup costs after accepting a form of payment.

grow up and just pay the fine. your campus parking permit does not garuntee you a parking spot, and you knowingly parked in the wrong spot.

If you pay in pennies and they decide to take you to court like in those cases you mentioned, who do you think is going to win, a college institution or you? Seriously.

I actually did not think they would ticket me for parking there. I am registered for that lot, I thought that would nullify the metered spots for guests. Especially in absence of other spots.

I have already went to campus court to fight an unrelated charge. And won.

if you plan on graduating at that school, pay the fine. I paid $75 in total for university parking tickets over 4 years. It sucks, but it's no big thing.

Its pretty clear what you should do. Write an appeal letter and state calmly and politely that 1) you had a permit but 2) the lot was full and 3) you waited for XX minutes before 4) deciding to park in the temporary metered spot. Admit that you know what you did was wrong. Then you can ask your questions 1) why were you unable to park when you've paid for a permit 2) would they please forgive or reduce the penalty if you promise not to park all night in the meter spot.

Ignoring the tickets is the worst thing that you could do. 1) its not a mature reaction 2) it doesn't do anything to solve the underlying issues. You'll probably get a lock on your account, possibly making it impossible to register or graduate. If that happens, you'll have no recourse but to pay the fees. Act now and you'll have a chance at a forgiven or reduced fine.
