If I am going to over clock FX-55 or FX-53?

Which of these has more OC capability? Obviously the 55 is faster out of the box but I wasn't sure if either one was multiplier locked or something like that.

Edit: Duh, One thing I forgot to ask, are both of these 130nm cores?

They both have 130nm cores. Some of the guys from xtremesystems were able to overclock their FX55's from 2.6 ghz to 2.9/3.0 ghz or so, ON AIR, which is quite frankly, amazing. My only experience with the FX53 is the one my cousin bought, that one went from 2.4 ghz to 2.6 ghz on water, max voltages.

Both will yield great results. Keep in mind the FX series have all the multis unlocked you are at a much higher advantage over the regular A64.

Yeah but is paying $850 worth it for the FX because of that? Given that A64 3000+ for $155 will get to 2.6ghz. Even if you stepped up to $260 3500+ and got that from 2.2 to 2.8ghz. Is paying $500+ more for A64 3.0ghz worth it?

no its not, unless u got lots and lots of money.. they do use strained silicon though (higher clock potential -3ghz for eg), and have 1mb cache, so will always be better than a 3xxx oc

Agreed. My FX-53 will go to 2.6 at 1.55v, but 2.7GHz is not stabe even at 1.7v. This is with water cooling.

I would opt for the FX-55, hands down.

Its all in the stepping.

The model doesnt matter, certain steppings OC better than others. The people with FX53s that wont OC well probably have old steppings, if you get an FX53 that was fabbed 3 weeks ago, its going to OC just like an FX55 from the same step.
