If humans were to suddenly become extinct what animal would take over?

so would most living things...if they are warming themselves the roach will move in to that space to.

What if humans have been living in a matrix-like loop for some time now? When I think about how advanced aztecs/mayans were with their astronomy and how egypticians built those huge pyramides etc, I cant help but think, what if we have already been at a more advanced stage then we are now, and the result is always the same - we end up destroying ourselves? Yeah its crazy and has no foundation but I like to think wild

But think about it, it would be natures way of preventing us from knowing more than we should... If every species becomes self destructive at some point in evolution, its ultimately impossible that one will ever attain "full knowledge" because it keeps starting over
