If HD-DVD dies, think Microsoft would ever release a Blu-Ray player?

If the format wars are decided before it's feasible to move onto the next new technology (BR and HD-DVD are pretty much a temp. solution from what I hear) then sure.

Guess so, just another add-on to the 360.
I think they have control over the VC-1 codec, which is mandatory on all HD-DVD and BD players, so I don't think they care.
I may be wrong...😕

From Wiki:
Although widely considered to be Microsoft's product, there are actually 15 companies in the VC-1 patent pool (as of 17 August 2006). As an SMPTE standard, VC-1 is open to implementation by anyone, although implementers are hypothetically required to pay licensing fees to the MPEG LA, LLC licensing body or directly to its members who hold essential patents on the format (since it is a non-exclusive licensing body).[1]

Take it with a grain of salt because it is Wiki.
