If forums started using audio/video instead of text

Had this thought before I go to bed:

In the not too distant future, text and typing in forums becomes outdated and they replace it with recordings like "click button to record video/audio".

Then you would have to listen (or watch) to people talk instead of read. No more such things as grammar nazi's or wall-o-text. Kinda like those youtube gossip/talk crap but at a forum level.

With the video function, you can probably see a thumbnail or preview of the person you want to see along with their username, so you click theirs, bypassing the deal with having to read posts. Then you can probably ignore the people you don't want to see/hear.

I can see this happening eventually, maybe not in our lifetime but in the future. Would you shift over to this internet age if presented the opportunity?

You can already ignore the people you don't want to see/hear. Plus, I'm too impatient to wait for you to talk. I read fast.
 
It's just like a movie based on a book. You can read the book or watch the movie.

Text to speech maybe.

So now instead of reading about shit that makes me question the human race I get to see it in glorious full motion video and sound? Uhh no thanks. It would probably take 2 mins for the boards to fill up with gruesome death videos, bestiality, pranks, bodily functions I didn't know existed and midget and child pr0n.
 
Yeah this is an awful idea. I already hate when they have a video for a two paragraph article, and half the time you have to sit through a 30 second commercial before the video which often ends up seemingly not even related to the article.

Plus, after most people wince after hearing their own voices, we'll end up with a bunch of those annoying robotic voices and autotune shit everywhere.

I don't see text going anywhere anytime soon as I often am watching a movie or listening to music while I'm viewing text focused pieces.

And think how annoying these trolls would be if we had to put up with their 12 year old puberty changing voices. It'd be like Xbox Live all the time.

The funny thing is, if you look at the younger generation, you'd notice that they seem to greatly prefer texting to talking.

Ideally, it would be an option. For blind and otherwise disable people, it would be nice is the ability to get the information would be readily accessible. At the same time, it would be nice if we didn't have to put up with so much worthless information using up extra resources by being made into a video/audio clip when it doesn't need to be.
 
I seriously have been thinking about this for about a year now. I wanted to even create a forum that used it (for myself).

It wouldn't be practical as I can read much faster than people can speak, but it would be interesting to say the least.
 
this is horrible, this idea.

text is good because you can glance at a post and get the gist within seconds. video/audio, you have to pretty sit through the whole thing. i mean face it, most of the stuff posted on this type of forums aren't things you want to pay serious attention to.

unless there is a way to more quickly consume video/audio clips, text is far more efficient.

the anonymity and relative "safety" of sharing our views in textual form sees many ideas come to the forefront that would be lost in the iteration described above. not to mention, it would be a total trainwreck.

also, many of us, myself included, are much better communicating this way. in person i am not very chatty... i'm kind of quiet. well not really but certainly much quieter than my postcount would indicate.

People argued the same thing for embedded pics and that never happened.

edit: I still think this is a horrible idea.
 
I would hate that, considering I sometimes view forums from work and other public places. people would think I'm weird for talking to my computer.
 
texting and writing in forums will be outdated when texting and writing itself is outdated, like the scenario in fahrenheit 451. which will be not in our lifetimes...
