If everyone paid their dues when they went to the hospital...

If there weren't any people like homeless, illegals or simply poor people in the hospital, and everyone who went to the hospital paid their bills, would it cost nearly as much as it does now for being admitted to the emergency room? Remember my foot? yeah that was $1200, some of which I hope the insurance covers, so I'm wondering, would it have been significantly less otherwise?

Build the wall. That'll cut healthcare costs!

Then cut anesthesiologits pay from $300,000 to $85,000. That will REALLY help costs come down.

You really have no clue if you still think that's what is causing the costs to be so out of proportion than the rest of the world.

Wouldnt it be nice if we could all make $300,000 / yr? Then healthcare costs wouldnt really matter now would they. :)

But I think there are many factors, and you know SOMEONE has to pay those ridiculous salaries. Guess who?

If this country had free national healthcare, we wouldn't have to worry about it.

How would a specialist be able to work if their salary was less than their malpractice insurance premiums?

Probably not. The hospitals will still try to rip you off as much as they think they can get away with. They'd just be a lot more profitable due to lower costs.

Cap malpractice claims and premiums. MAKE it affordable.

Especially if you dont pay taxes.

Tax the rich. Problem solved. Sure, they'll have to worry about getting a 30 foot yacht instead of a 40 foot one because of the higher taxes. But beats worrying about choosing between shelter and medical care.

Yeah, but wouldn't everything just increase proportionately?

1920's Germany would disagree ;)

If malpractice lawsuits weren't so prevalent. Doctors aren't miracle workers, but people expect them to be.

I'd like to see you try and do what I do. A-hole.

Docs as a whole make less than they did 10 years ago, rising costs for drugs, medical equiptment, and ancillary staff are what's fueling rises in heathcare costs.

I am two minds of capping malpractice suits. while i agree there are to many out there the problem comes in when you have a doctor do something really bad that they need to be sued into oblivion.

i would rather see a loser pay or hitting people hard for BS lawsuits.

The problem isn't really capping law suits though. Most of the law suits that get paid out are due to genuine negligence. One of the bigger problems is, regardless of the outcome of the suit, the doctor's rates will go up.

It would be a start, but would also introduce it's own set of problems.

I wonder if people realize that something like 20-30% of healthcare costs go to administration and billing associated with insurance, that's a fair amount of money that could probably be made more efficient.

Fixed.
