I hate to admit it, but Texas would probably be victorious. For the reasons everybody has stated and plus they seem to be well suited with the idea of being their own country. I'm sure they'd go nuts. REMEMBER TEH ALAMO!!!!!11

But Michigan wouldn't be a pushover. We're surrounded by water except on our southern border, so we'd be very hard to attack. And everybody knows Ohio and Indiana are pussies. All we would have to do would be to go into Detroit and tell everyone it was now okay to start shooting people as long as they weren't from Michigan.
 
As much as I can't stand Texas, I'd have to say that between the psycho rednecks and the oil in their water, they'd destroy the rest of the country with bullets and stupidity.
 
Colorado would be difficult to attack, but then again Colorado probably wouldn't put too many efforts into dominating surrounding states.

It's like a game of Risk, really.

It would have to be a hunting state. I say Ohio. They did manage to hold on to Toledo...

Plus, the Ohio militia is the only federally-recognized militia (not including Nat'l Guard) so they have an extra layer of protection.

Invasion from overseas would be defended by:
Navy/Coast Guard/Air Force
Marines/Army/Air Force
Nat'l Guard/Air Nat'l Guard
Ohio Militia
Police forces
Citizens

I don't know how strong the Ohio militia is, but I'm willing to bet that Texas has many more military bases than Ohio.
 
California has twice the economic power of Texas or New York and hell of a lot more people...not mention a couple naval, army, and air force bases.

It is well protected from incursion by a large moutain range and deserts (sorry Nevada) except to north, which is Oregon (a state which would pose no threat).

Most important industries are well represented in California and CA would control commerical ports for products from the Far East.

Aside from Texas, New York, and Florida (and maybe one or two other states) which also lose money in the federal taxation / re-allocation process...all other states would stop receiving their yearly federal budget handout that CA, TX, NY, and FL pay for and these states would find themselves in a very real budget crisis.

Basically, CA, TX, NY, and FL would sign a treaty... all other states would be fvcked.
