but because he has his father's name he's the highest paid driver in nascar due to $22 million in endoresements. to put that number in perspective, the only athletes with bigger endorsement numbers are tiger ($96m), phil ($46m) and lebron ($28m).

SI list

I got this little July facts sheet in the mail today and one of the things listed was July 1946 Annual salary for MLB players increased to $5000

Inflation ? I think not.

Jr used to be in mediocre equipment but now that he is at Hendrick in top equipment he really has no excuse for his mediocre finishes other than his skill. He is well behind everybody else at Hendrick. Even Brad Keselowski driving part time with 5 starts this year and only 7 total in cup has a better average finish then Jr and a win in Hendrick equipment.

Yup agree 100%, only reason he is even there is because of his name.

Isn't it really common for there to be NASCAR families? I mean, it takes tons of money to get into NASCAR, not to mention experience and personal connections. It must be so much easier for families like the Earnhardts, Pettys, Labontes, and Unsers.

well prior to COT, he was top five if not top three driver for the super speedways which is where you get the attention, so not like this is something far fetched.

He's the most popular figure in a sport that every hick in the country follows constantly. Isn't Nascar nearly as popular as football or something? Not surprising he made that much...

I think Nascar actually is facing a fandom crisis, but yeah he's popular and speaks honestly and candidly, and his dad died in a race. That's instant fame and $$.

Also publicly feuded with his step-mom over his dad's racing team in which he looked to be the "good guy," and well ... if you hate Kyle Busch like a shitload of Nascar fans do, you lean to Dale like polarity.

Not going to lie, I like Dale Jr. but he is surely in a slump right now. He should have a good race this weekend at Daytona. The fans appreciate Dale Jr. because he is very down to earth and just a normal guy in a tshirt and blue jeans.
