If Cuba is such a great place why don't cubans move back?

I don't agree with the new laws on being able to send money and resources back to Cuba. The travel I am ok with.

I personally think it will set up 'pay to trade' systems where instead of relatives the Cuban economy will profit.

Not the kind of thing we need right now....spending outside our country.

I think sending money is fine, but unfortunately there is no way for us to ensure that the castros won't get it and empower the commie gubmint.

If Cuba is such a great place why don't cubans move back?

The question I have is if Cuba is so great then why do people climb on almost anything that floats in an effort to get out and more importantly why does their government try to prevent this? If you hate the US there is nothing other than gaining entry to another country preventing you from leaving yet every workers paradise to date has had to build all sorts of barriers to prevent their citizens from leaving.

Meh, that and travel from the US are the first steps in dismantling the embargo. Fidel is an empty uniform waiting for a casket at this point and his brother has all the meaningful control over the country. The time has come to start making small steps in this direction.

No, it's not. It served a very real purpose during the Cold War. Now that the Cold War is over it may need to be re-examined but Cuba is still very much a despotic regime with political prisoners, no free speech, etc.

No, it's not. It served a very real purpose during the Cold War. Now that the Cold War is over it may need to be re-examined but Cuba is still very much a despotic regime with political prisoners, no free speech, etc.

so is China.

China isn't parked at our front porch and wasn't installing nuclear missiles from our enemy during the Cold War.

China has over 1 billion people and is on the other side of the planet while Cuba is 70 miles off our coast. The situations are not really comparable not that I necessarily agree that the Cuban embargo serves much of any useful purpose today.

no but they are currently doing a very good job of building a modern blue water navy and a intercontinental ballistic missile force.

oh, and I think the reason the Soviet Union attempted that was because we had also done the very same thing to them in Turkey.

the hypocrisy of why we continue this blockade is a joke, this country should have reestablished ties with Cuba 20 years ago.

they leave for economic reasons.

the last I looked around there are also a ton of Indians in this country too...and IIRC India is a democratic country...
