If Bill Gates had a nickel for every time Windows crashed...

...He'd be richer than Bill Gates.

Seriously Harvey, it is time to ditch 98. Best decision I ever made. I went with Win XP. It is rock solid stable. Anything after win2k easily makes 98 look like the flake it is. And this given I had 98 pretty damn stable too seeing as I learned a lot of it's ins and outs, but even still it did crash on occasion.

If you don't play games harvey, it's a waste of everything to use windows anything.

Hey! The post was a joke. I just heard it on the Prarie Home Companion annual "joke show. 🙂

OTOH, I have other reasons for staying with Win 98. I have a couple of legacy apps that need real DOS. Otherwise, I'd use 2K. The most important is my printed circuit layout program. The DOS emulation in 2K doesn't support the VESA graphic extensions resolutions greater than 640 x 480. For that matter, either does any vid card I've tried, except Nvidias.

I also have Orcad pc layout for Windows. It works, and I can even import my old files, but it's not anywhere near as easy to use as my trusty old Tango 2 for DOS.

WindowsXP Pro seems to support plenty of legacy DOS apps, at least in my experience.

It's those VESA extensions I need. Besides, in Win 98, I like the way you can get "under the hood" and fix stuff in DOS that Windows won't let you near.

You can tweak all sorts of crap in 2K/XP. There's plenty of tweaking program/guides out there, and it's a lot more pleasant than mucking around in DOS.

If you need a DOS-based OS that badly, dual boot. Seriously man, get with the times. 😉

Remember that Billy Boy bought DOS.....and btw, you are showing our....uh..uh..your age!😱

Most of the people on this forum would faint dead away if they needed to tweak the os just to get a game to run like the old days, let alone a serious app like Harvey is using.

You tell'em son....oh wait...you are older than me!😉

I have to be careful with what I say, because the "friendly" Mod is all over me like some sort of nasty irish rash, but I think Microsoft is a great company and has done many good things for the world of computing. I think there is a lot of unfair microsoft bashing. Without the windows platform, most software companies would never make any profit and the internet would be non-existant.

What, you think your the only one messing around in dos to get a game to work? 😉 I'm so glad I don't have to worry about EMS and XMS and loading sound/mouse drivers to get the damn games working.

That said, it was totally worth the time spent on TIE fighter. 🙂
