...you will be reminded that it is indeed NOT CoD5, multiple times if needed. I plan to be very anal about this.
That is all.
That is all.

Can I call it COD 6?
The marketing explanation here is that the publisher is trying to leverage existing brand equity in the "Call of Duty" name in order to make more games that the consumer will reflexively associate with the previous CoD games they loved. It's a reasonable strategy.Originally posted by: ducci
I'm pretty sure they're taking the GTA approach - same engine, updated features not meriting a new "book", just a new "chapter" of the same "book".

The problem is that everyone also associates spin-offs with crap quality. There are a few exceptions (see: Shin Megami Tensei), though, so maybe they can avoid it if they keep putting out high quality products. We shall see.
You have grasped the essence of my argument.Originally posted by: ducci
You're using big words, so I don't know what you're talking about. But World at War and the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 both have the "Call of Duty" name attached to them.
Yes, it's a new brand. But since it's got the "Call of Duty" in it, people associate it with the original Call of Duty franchise, which, by all accounts, is quite good. And I'm even pretty sure World at War isn't officially called Call of Duty 4: World at War, it's just Call of Duty: World at War.
Yep. They've taken the Call of Duty brand, and made it into three brands:And that Modern Warfare 2 has dropped the 4 altogether, so it is just Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Maybe. It hasn't hurt Final Fantasy too much. It's also possible Activision has decided to stop with the numbering because it "cheapens" the brand (as if releasing a new version every year doesn't).

No. It MUST be referred to as CoD:MW2. I may even be anal about the lowercase "o", but I haven't decided yet.

Do you call Call of Duty: Finest Hour CoD2, because it was the second full game in the series and had a distinctly different plot from the previous game in the series?
Do you call Call of Duty 2 CoD 3 for the same reason?
Do you call Call of Duty: Big Red One CoD 4 for the same reason?
Do you call Call of Duty 3 CoD 5 for the same reason?
Do you call Call of Duty 4 CoD 6 for the same reason?
Do you call Call of Duty: World at War CoD 7 for the same reason?
Just wondering, because it seems like Call of Duty: World at War is the first game that people have done this with.
