Folding is superior assuming you could eliminate the random possibility of winding up in Hell.

🙂
Agreed! I'd be to afraid we'd end up in a situation like Event Horizon, and I'd have to find a way to get home to my daddy!! 😉

and what is hyper speed or whatever?

i only know of warp and folding.

Ludicrous Speed = Space Balls
Hyper Space = Star Wars

Kind of, but it depends on how the folding is achieved. Think EVE-Online, or the Antares Dawn and Antares Passage books by Michael McCollum. The former uses man-made stargates to link between systems, and the latter uses "foldspace", or naturally occurring folds in space that can be exploited. The latter means that you're limited on where you can go, and leads to interesting strategic possibilities.

So in terms of an interesting storyline, I'll go with Space Folding.

No.

Space Fold Drives are a unatural thing. Wormholes happen naturally. With Fold drives the space is artificially folded to give you the shortest journey possible. Worm holes can meander all over the place and not necessarily a shorter route.

Robotech uses Space Folding, but it still takes from days to years to travel great distances.

Cool, I was thinking of the Freespace series of space combat games... they have a mixture of both naturaly occuring and created wormholes that are used for travel. I need to reintsall those 🙂

warp speed > hyperspace... warp speed n = lightspeed^n, if im not mistaken. its either times n or ^n.

definitely went with ludicrous speed! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

space folding for sure, since its instantaneous within its range, and you can repeat as many times as necessary to get to your destination in time multipls of zero 😀

i'm a nerd too...been watching all my taped star trek episodes this week

Borg cube can reach warp 25 which is equivalent to c*2^(25) which is about 10066329600000 m/s ( where of course c is the speed of light in a vacumn).

the borg use something called trans-warp its different than the normal warp of the trek universe though

Warp drive requires huge engines, but even the little fighters in Star Wars were capable of hyperspeed.

OTOH, enemy forces can't prevent you from warping away, whereas the Imperials had Interdictors that could disable all hyperspeed in a sphere of space.

I'd go with warp because it looks cooler.

I seem to recall shuttles having warp engines in Star Trek. I think their max speed was less than a big ship, but they had it.

I'd definately go for LudicrousSpeed.

Mainly because my 1991 Saturn Sedan has an 85 horsepower engine 😉
