Kind of, but it depends on how the folding is achieved. Think EVE-Online, or the Antares Dawn and Antares Passage books by Michael McCollum. The former uses man-made stargates to link between systems, and the latter uses "foldspace", or naturally occurring folds in space that can be exploited. The latter means that you're limited on where you can go, and leads to interesting strategic possibilities.

So in terms of an interesting storyline, I'll go with Space Folding.

No.

Space Fold Drives are a unatural thing. Wormholes happen naturally. With Fold drives the space is artificially folded to give you the shortest journey possible. Worm holes can meander all over the place and not necessarily a shorter route.

Robotech uses Space Folding, but it still takes from days to years to travel great distances.

Cool, I was thinking of the Freespace series of space combat games... they have a mixture of both naturaly occuring and created wormholes that are used for travel. I need to reintsall those

the borg use something called trans-warp its different than the normal warp of the trek universe though

I seem to recall shuttles having warp engines in Star Trek. I think their max speed was less than a big ship, but they had it.
