I have all my home calls forwarded to my cell phone.

This afternoon MCI called me while I was at work asking me to switch, told them not interested then hung up.

MCI called again just now (almost 8:00 PM when That 70's Show is about to start) offering me a "FREE MONTH OF LONG DISTANCE SERVICE". I got pissed off and went into Ferengi mode. I told him I'm not interested I'm sticking with AT&T, he asked why what are they offering maybe he can match it. Told him AT&T is offering me a FREE $75 MasterCard debit card and FREE $25 Amazon GC for switching to AT&T. Silence. He says well, uhm, well he can't match that, I said "The Grand Nagus is very disappointed in you, you're lucky that Nog (PAB) isn't here otherwise he'd kick your ass, so in other words I'm not interested, bye, click". Yes I seriously said that exact same line, it was very difficult to stop myself from busting up laughing.

"I'm not interested, please place my name on your do-not-call list. Thank you." All ya gotta say.

If they call back after that, you can tag them for $500 a pop. :D

I thought they had to call you a minimum of 3 or 4 times before you can invoke that law?

Anyone got a link for Oregon's rules?

Hehe, I wonder if they even had a clue as to what you were referring to. :D

I had one call the other night, he must have been new, as he asked me how I was, and then actually gave me a break to say something. I said "I'm fine, doing well, can you do me a favor? Put me on your do not call list. Thanks!" <-----do not pause!

He stammered then said bye and hung up.

Gah I hate telemarketers. :| If they are rude or jerks, depending how much time I have, I will either be brief (I hang up) or string them along for a long time then say no, absolutely not. and please add me to your do not call list. Thanks! Screws up their call stats, slows them down, and reduces the # of calls they can make per hour. Otherwise I usually just interrupt and tell them to put me on the do not call list and I'm not interested.

Once you ask them to put you on the do not call list, write down the date and time you requested to be put on their do not call list, and then keep a log of date/time they call, what company, and see if you can find out if they are subcontractors for MCI or work directly for MCI. Then check your state laws for what kind of damages you can pursue. For them calling after you've asked.

If you collect $$ for subsequent calls, all I got to say is Happy Hunting! :)

I've been getting calls from local 'Charities' requesting donations lately. Odd, because i have never made a significant donation to anything over the phone or through the mail.

To get them off the phone, i only ask 'What percentage do you donate directly to the charity, and what percentage of it goes to overhead costs?'

You'll find that most 'Charities' keep up to 97% of money donated!

I am on the MCI Neighborhood plan.
It is a flat fee for everything, local calls, long distance calls, call waiting, voice, etc?
Saves me money.

Way to go.
I am with MCI for international calls, but it took them +4 months to get things right. I called them +10 times telling them how incompetent and crappy their company is.
Worst customer support ever.

You all know the 'We are recording this call to improve customer support.....' scam.
I made sure they heard every word I said!!! HAHAHAHA ROTFLMAO.

Just my luck. Susan and I just got back from Staples B&M where I made a killing ... get out of the car, activate the car alarm, my cell phone rings, I answer HELLO? HELLO? a lady says ... Ross? I say yes, she asks how are you going? I said fine, thanks for asking and you? She says I'm doing great then breaks into the whole "I'm an MCI account manager ..." I interrupt and say very loudly (outside, in front of the house at 7:50 PM 10 mins before "Ed" starts) this is the 3rd time you guys have called me since yesterday, please put me on your DO NOT CALL LIST and DON'T EVER CALL ME AGAIN please ... she says ok thank you Ross, have a nice night.

Argh!

If they call you back, you have to prove it somehow, probably with a recording of asking to be put on the do not call list and a recording when they call back. I am not 100% sure though. I've never been called back after asking them to put me on their do not call list. Once I thought AT&T called me back (I have two lines and they had called me on both. I told them the second time that I should be on their do not call list (which I wasn't for this line) and the woman sounded very scared all of a sudden and became very apologetic.

I have been getting calls from some "charity" claiming to be the state troopers association, those guys are almost always rude to me on the phone. I've made up my mind to give them hell next time they call me because damn it, they're bothering me, not the other way around.

Lately I've been getting telemarketers that actually leave messages on my answering machine. Actual people, not a recording. Like wtf, they actually expect people to call back a telemarketer??

MCI is Suck - here's why:

1) I talke to an individual who converted over to MCI because they promised 9 cent per minute International rates.

2) When he received his bill, they charged him $1.14 per minute and not the .09 as promised.

3) His bill was for $1,100, so he called MCI - they said they would take care of it.

4) He then received a bill for $1,100 the next month, so he called MCI again.

5) MCI indicated that since they had sought bankruptcy protection, they were no longer providing customer credits for issues such as his.

Plain and simple, MCI is suck. Stay away from them.

They can't leave an automated recording on your machine unless they're a non-profit. Part of the same set of laws regarding the do-not-call list thing. I nailed a satellite installation service a couple weeks ago when they we're "leaving a message" on my home phone and I picked it up. It was obviously a recording as the voice just kept blathering along. I called the number and broadsided the cust service manager. Read off the laws pertaining to businesses leaving messages and the whole nine yards. It was quite amusing. :D

2 Initiate any telephone call to any residential telephone line using an artificial or prerecorded voice to deliver a message without the prior express consent of the called party, unless the call is initiated for emergency purposes or is exempted by sec. 64.1200(c).

the nearly exact thing happend to may this summer. Somehow they had offered him a card or something, that basicly tricked him(can't remember exactly how they did it, but it was very clever) into thinking he was getting long distance calls for 9 cents a minute. when he got his bill he got charged something like $70, for a few long distance calls, at something like $1.50 a minute.

MCI is v suck

I think it's just more fun to mess with them. Some things I've done:

- Carried on a conversation with someone else in the room while the telemarketer was speaking.
- Say nothing, just grunt at everything the person says.
- Acted flamboyantly gay while asking a question about everything they said.
- If they say you'll save money, say "I don't really like saving money." Then they get all confused.
- If it's a long-distance company, tell them you would have no use for long distance since you don't even own a phone.
