Hmmn Mosh logged in today, what would it take to entice them back to ATOT?

Mosh was treated rather poorly here once upon a time...I'm just not sure that would ever happen.

I'm pretty sure I have an account over at neffers....I totally forgot about this.

Oh.....it looks like I sure do still have an account. 😎

I got enough stuff going on in my life that I'll just let it go without replacing Anandtech. I used to frequent quite a few forums that went away so now I have more time for pron and funny cat videos.

The bruises from the last mosh pit I was in have just finished healing 😄

I was at my last Nine Inch Nails concert in 1996.. I'm still hearing it and sometimes often have to tell my wife to repeat herself especially if she's talking with a fan or an air conditioner or bus/ train running nearby.

I've been wearing musician's earplugs to shows for a decade, fortunately don't seem to have much in the way of hearing loss from all the shows prior to that, or tinnitus that I've noticed (I have the impression that I'd probably notice it if I did).

WHAT? SPEAK UP!

Been on Techpowerup forums for a while, but the vibe is quite different there.

Feels more hostile, less cohesive, and less casual banter/politics.

That said its still an old school forum and if enough of us move over then we'd stand a chance of changing the site character.

Alternative you have the techspot forums. I only suggest those because they're borderline dead, so we could effectively move in and just rebuild the community without too many pesky natives getting in the way.

Either way I recommend going and staking a claim with an account now even if you don't use it.
It feels more hostile? Have you been in P&N? J/K of course. It feels that way there because of their moderation style in the tech forums. Letting fanatics duke it out and derail discussions is bad juju. It's why I squash those beefs here faster than a jack rabbit on a hot date. May as well be on Reddit if you are going to allow shills, trolls, and fanatics to run wild and filthy the place up shit posting. As has been said, Reddit sucks, I am not making that my home.

I will still hang at TPU for tech as Wizz seems cool and he is far preferrable to corpo overlords. Tom's can suck it, I am not migrating there.
Lemmy as a temporary regrouping/information area, and Squirrel's place for a real forum.
I don't know what Lemmy is so I am inclined to decline going there. But if it's the will of this council that the Hobbit carry the burden, I will see it done. I will need the link/ mark on his door in the Shire, and a fast tracked sign up process.

A typical dedicated server costs in the $100/mo range. OVH has pretty good pricing, that's where mine is at. Xenforo license is actually fairly reasonable too and is a one time payment. $195/mo.

In theory one could scrape these forums and even transfer everything over to the new forum. I don't know what the legalities of that would be though... Technically Future probably owns the content of every post.

Really I think the best bet is whoever within the moderation/admin team that has direct contacts with Future just talks with them and ensures that there is in fact a long term plan, and if ever they do decide to shut it down, to at least give warning or even let someone else take the whole thing over.
The biggest issue would be getting everyone their old usernames. I can guarantee if we go somewhere else that some nitwit will register as someone else's old user name and pretend to be that person.
