If a person drowns, how long does it take their body to surface?

Yesterday, it was assumed that someone jumped from a bridge in my town. I was running on another bridge where the main witness of this was yesterday. He claimed that he saw a person fall. I heard the boys on the other bridge yelling down, which doesn't make sense if it was only a skateboard that fell. Estimated height of the bridge is about 50 feet above the water and the depth of the water is approximately 19 feet. If the a kid jumped off the bridge and never surfaced, what do you think could have happend?
 
Depends on current conditions too.

I think as far as surfacing, it can take several days since I believe that it's bacteria and gases that build up in the body after death that causes it to surface.

The article says that they believe the report to be a hoax, but if someone really did drown...🙁.

That's what I figured. I hate that the article is calling it a hoax because I don't think it is. They had divers and sonar running the bottom of the river, but it doesn't take long for something as small as a 12-15 year old boy to drift in the current of a river. He could be stuck in something too. If that's the case, it's a shame... 🙁
 
There was a case here in Eugene several years back where a number of kids were jumping off a bridge in the summer time. One never came back up.
They sent some divers down and found the kid tangled up in bicycles that had been stolen and then thrown off the bridge. A later story claimed that there were piles of stolen bikes under just about every bridge in town!

Maybe that's what happened here?
 
I think it takes about three days for the trap gas in your body to raise you up. If the body is not tied to a brick or metal chains.
 
Of course depends on how much cement you used to weight them down........
