If a heavy box falls on your eye ...

Should you go to the eye doctor?

A heavy box fell on my eye while I was getting another box off a tall shelf. It was hidden above it so I couldn't tell if it was on top or not. It just fell and hit my eye. I have a scrape on my eyelid and it was slightly bleeding.

It totally knocked the wind out of me.

My eyesight was blurry for more than 45 minutes and I couldn't concentrate on anything. Now, it is slowly returning to normal. Do you think I should wait a day or two and then go?

I would go immediately if it were me, especially since your vision was blurry for that long. Vision problems aren't something I mess around with.

Well, the eye was red and the eyelid had dry blood on it. The eye has now returned to almost normal, but it is mildly pinkish.

Go to the eye doctor. It could be ok, but it could also lead to a lot of pretty severe complications that eventually lead to blindness. Don't take that chance.

Uh... I would go to the doctor. Vision is important!

Always be safe than sorry. Go see an eye doctor. Money can always be earned. Take precautions. You obviously don't feel right not doing anything. So take yourself to an eye doctor and have your work place reimburse you for the charges.

Actually, I'm at home and working with stuff like this can cause problems. LOL it is my fault.

I just checked the mirror and the eye seems fine, but just a bruise on the eyelid from the box. More than likely, I will call the eye office tomorrow. I will sleep through the night and see if that rest makes things better.

Thanks.

No, you're fine. You don't need to go to a doctor right after a heavy object just fell on your EYE and you had blurry vision for over half an hour.

I really understand what you guys are saying. I will ask for an appointment for the eye doc tomorrow, but as of right now, the condition has improved a lot. Eyesight as of rigth now is fine except for a little weird feeling. I think after a box falls on your eye area, you will have that little wobbly feeling. But it has improved a lot.

Maybe this is a good sign.

I would probably go to the eye doctor. But that's just me... I have this crazy idea that it's beneficial not to be blind in one eye.

But like you said, you're feeling a little bit better. When I got hit in the eye with a basketball, I felt a little bit better too. Of course, that was before I woke up the next day and had to start a three month regimen of steroidal-based drugs to keep the inflammation out of my eye, but I felt fine at first.

Don't bother going to the doctor. What's your vision really worth, when compared to possibly raising your insurance rates?

What's with all the sarcasm peeps?

If I were you, I'd keep poking and prodding at it and until the swelling goes away. After that poke it harder until the swelling retuns!

I went to the eye doctor this morning and she said it was fine except for a bruise on the eyelid. It got labeled "Eyelid contusion". I am supposed to take tylenol or Ibuprofin.

I want to thank you all for giving me the motivation to go.
