If a cpu is dead

If a cpu is dead how far will it boot to. Or will it even post?
How can I tell if it's the board or the cpu.

About the easiest way of doing it is if you have another cpu that can work in that board, or another board that can work with that cpu

Some bios have beep codes that can tell you if your motherboard or processor are having trouble...if you don't have any beep codes, its probobly the processor, but if you do get beep codes and you don't know what they mean, check out bioscentral.com...you can learn more about the beep codes for your bios version there.
