if a cop pulls you over you should be as cooperative and unargumentative as possible. unless you are a freaking criminal no cop is going to ask to search your car after running your license. if you are a freaking criminal, and a cop asks to search your car and you dont have to allow him to, then of course you should not give him permission. why would you do that, what would you have to gain from doing that?

but again, if you arent a freaking criminal and you dont want a traffic ticket the best way to avoid one is to not argue with the cop and to not act angry even though of course you are. that doesnt always work, sometimes they are going to give you a ticket anyway, but arguing is just going to make him give you a ticket and be sure to show up when he gets the notice for your traffic trial. my personal policy is to not even deny committing a traffic offense. i get pulled over a lot and i dont get tickets that often (or if i do they write me up a seat belt violation rather than a moving violation)

that is my advice, and im a cop hater

Agreed with everything in this post (except that I'm not a cop hater.)

I'm not a criminal... I don't understand your point?

You must be. If cops are protecting us from criminals, and a cop wants to search your car to protect us, via the transitive property, you are a criminal.

I know the UK is full of imbeciles, but this is getting ridiculous.

We have this thing in the UK where you are innocent until proven guilty, so why would I be a criminal because a policemen wants / needs to search my car?

Try to follow your own train of thought. Cops are here to protect you. Cop asks to search your car. Therefore cop is searching your car to protect you?

Cops aren't just here to protect me, they are here to protect everyone.

So they need to protect everyone from you which is why they're searching your car, because you're a criminal.

Again.... You're not a criminal until you've been found guilty, fuck me, I knew that some americans were stupid but this is getting absurd.

You are right, our stupidity lies in falling for your troll baiting again and again. Because surely no human can hold such a wide swath of stupid opinions as you do.

You're right it's stupid to think that police are out to catch criminals for our well being...

I said that the police protect you

Unless you have an officer that shadows your every move, police aren't there to protect you.

Police are there to generate revenue and clean up after a crime has been committed. And, if they happen to catch a few criminals, well that's just the icing on the cake.

First I would inquire as to why. If I found his reason to be reasonable I would allow it. Otherwise, I would say, "no thank you, i'm not comfortable with your reason."

Never will be in that boat though. :p

All of this.

When I said "you" I didn't mean an individual, I meant the people.

It's just occurred to me that in the UK, you don't have a choice, it's "I'm going to search your car" not "May I please search your car"...

It is as it should be over here IMO.

Who are the people but a collection of "you"s?

That's exactly who they are, but I'm talking about dealing with the morality of the polices actions on how they effect the majority rather than the individual, I.e. it is better to accuse one innocent person for the sake of the majority.
