And you don't have proper identification on you, what do they do? Ask you for your name and all? If so, what stops you from making up a name or using someone else's?

Misidentifing yourself to a cop is another charge.

If you make up a name, they'll run it and find out you lied.

If you give someone else's name and they suspect you of lying they'll ask you for info about yourself and you'll be busted.

It's a bad move all around.

EDIT:The sh!t could also hit the fan when the person whose name you gave shows up in court for the failure to appear notice.

the fine for jaywalking shouldn't even exist

if you're stupid enough not to look both ways before crossing the street, your life is in your own hands.

You arn't looking at it on both sides... it saves the drivers from having to worry about hitting pedestrians randomly walking across the street.

He should've given you another ticket for not telling us what happened in the "Spider Thread."

Major Big-Time Mess-Up #1 on ATOT is neglecting to bring to conclusion any thread about even remote possibility of scoring. You, my friend, are a stinker. :p

It happens all the time here on campus...not jaywalking, but with skateboarding tickets. Many times, the people getting the cites are HS students who don't have DLs or can't remember their SSNs (which can also be used on a cite to identify an offender). Usually people will have SOME sort of ID on them, and if they don't the officer will usually just take their word for it and write their name on the ticket.

It's not likely that people will falsely identify themselves to the cops. That's a much bigger charge than skateboarding or jaywalking.

Tourists were getting killed left and right trying to cross the strip here in Vegas. The city decided to put rows of palm trees, bushes, and low walls the length of the strip to prevent them from crossing. Now they scamper through the bushes, climb the wall, make their way around the palm trees and get run down.

Some people just need to get out of the damn pool.

Amen to that. If you're too stupid to cross the street without getting mowed down, then hey, too bad, the lifeguard punched your ticket just in time.

I like to think of it as "natural selection" at work. With all the laws that are supposed to protect people from harm, I'm seeing more and more stupid people around.

Why don't they just use the escalators and bridges???

I got a jaywalking ticket once in Santa Monica for crossing against a light. There was no traffic. I did not appreciate that! Fine was like $50.

False statement or evidence of age: $401.
Display of false license: $401.

It's gotta fall under one of those, or something similar here. :D
