If a company accidentally double billed me, causing my CC to go over my limit....

You could have the company remove the second charge, then have the CC company remove the finance charges.

*shrug*

Has the billing issue been resolved? (ie has the second charge dropped off)

Second, did both charges post?

You won't have a problem unless both charges posted (unlikely).

If they did, and the vendor reverses one of the charges (and they're obviously duplicates) your CC company will almost certainly waive the over limit fee + any penalties.

If they don't do it without you asking I would raise all kinds of hell, in my experience they have always volunteered both.

Call the CC company, they will look at the charges and if the person on the other line has half a brain, will recognize that it is a double charge. Tell him to get that cleared up then. You, the consumer wasn't at fault since it was the other guys who made the mistake.

Problem is, the charges hit 2 days before my statement period ended, and both are listed as seperate transactions. So yes, both posted.

Im on hold right now with Amex to dispute the 2nd charge, and im calling the company that double billed me right after.

And if they won't make it right, there are plenty of other credit cards to use that have extremely low interest rates these days...

Don't bother disputing the charges, when the vendor reverses one that will be the end of it.

Have you contacted the vendor yet? If not, that should be your first line of action.

They will call the CC provider, verify that two charges were made, & have one dropped.

That should solve the problem in its entirety, though a follow up call to the CC company wouldn't hurt (to make sure any fees/penalties are gone).

dunno if the rules on cards in USA vary much from UK, but if a third party was at fault then the card company should just refund you any charges they applied themselves and set you back at your current interest rate. If not then you can take the third party to court to recover your losses, including the possible interest that will be applied if you cannot move the money to another credit card interest free.

but being honest most credit card companies are usually happy to sort out the problem for you and restore you to where you were before the extra money came out.

Don't take any sh1t from these fvckers when you do it. You can be nice and all, but don't for a minute act like you're culpable in the least and don't let anyone treat you like you've done anything wrong. Verizon is in the process of making a huge mess of my wireless billing and I'm absolutely going to squeeze thier nuts with reckless abandon because it's all thier mistake. Luck!

If the vendor won't fix it or offer compensation request (actually demand politely) that they send you a typed and signed letter on company letterhead. This letter should detail what happen and clearly state it was THEIR error.

Photocopy this and mail it to Amex. Hopefully they will adjust your rate accordingly.

Don't raise hell though until you are absolutely certain you have lost your promotional APR rate.

Good news, Amex is handling it for me.... 🙂

Should be fixed by next statement... Thanks for the help guys!

So how did you get it fixed?

Technically you were OTL (over the limit) which should have nulled your promo APR.
