If 150.00 is your absolute maximum for a vid card upgrade.

I noticed that Best Buy now has the GFFX 5700Ultra for 219.00 less 30.00 instant rebate less 40.00 MIR = 149.99. Not bad if your absolute ceiling for a new vid card is 150.00. This is for the people who cant "swing" an extra 40.00 for a 5900 or 9800.
Just thought I'd pass this along as I have never seen the 5700U going this low before. Just wasnt worth it at 219.00 but at 149.99, Is a much nicer buy.

That 5700U isn't bad, but tax will set you back another $15, and there's the rebate to keep track of. Two good alternatives are the $153 Gigabyte 9600XT @ Allstarshop (retail, all cables, three games) and the $155 Sapphire 9600XT @ NewEgg (OEM, all cables, 650MHz memory).

For sales? 😛 That BFG 5700U will incur a sales tax, unless you're lucky enough to live in a state that either doesn't have a B&M BB store or doesn't charge sales tax.

Ahem: 5900SE @ 180.00 > 9600XT @ 150.00 = 5700U @ 150.00.

Look, I know you guys seem to love your beloved 9600XT but its no great shakes when you compare it to higher end cards.
The same goes for the 5700U.

These cute little <>= jobs are all in your head. In depends on what you use the card for. Sometimes the 9600XT is faster and sometimes the 5700U is faster. Whats the big deal? Leave your video card egos at the door because thats not what this thread is for.
All I wanted to do was show that the 5700U is now obtainable for 150.00. ATI wasn't even in the thread title fanboys... Was it?

So cut the sh!t please. I'm off to play on my 9700.

Neither was 5700U "If 150.00 is your absolute maximum for a vid card upgrade" is the Thread title. "If" $150 is your absolute maximum, 9600XT is just as valid choice as the 5700u. How does that make someone a fanboy to offer it up? It don't.

Add: If the 5700U is $150 only after rebate, then the guy/gal with $150 in their pocket are SOL anyway.

People who pick apart posts and thread titles generally need to stop taking this forum so seriously. I posted info, now I let the morons take it over. Enjoy.

HardOcp just tested the Gigabyte 9600XT and the Gigabyte 5700u and the 9600XT outperformed it in about 8 out of 9 benchmarks. The scores were often close, but especially given Nvidia's cheatmax drivers clearly the 9600XT is a better choice, especially since you get HL2 if you shop around.

Cheatmax drivers? This issue has been beaten to death so do us a favor and let it die!

Back on topic: The Sapphire 9600XT deal is too good to pass up (no freakin' rebates!). I've ordered from z-buy and they're a respectable company (as good as Newegg).

Rebates or not, I totally agree with keysplayer on this one, both cards are very similar performance wise, but if you want to overclock, go with the 5700u, just go to google, and look for some benchmarks where they compare oc'd radeon 9600xt's, versus oc'd 5700u's, the 5700u's always come ahead. Then again, if you don't plan on oc'ing, the 9600xt would be a perfect fit. Even though I own a 5700u, I like the board design of the 9600xt much better, it takes up soooo much less space.
