IEEE 1284 parallel vs USB 2.0

So I have this HP printer with both IEEE 1284 nice gold tipped connector or the USB 2.0 port. Which is faster? I though it was parallel at 16Mbps vs USB2.0 at 12Mbps but I could be wrong.

USB 2.0 is 40Mbps I believe, so it could be faster. I don't think it really matters in a sense of print speed, but USB is more user-friendly and widespread at this point. If you have a parallel port and aren't using it, you could use that to free up a USB port.

Who really cares which is faster? How large of a file are you printing to notice a difference?

Well as much as I think its a parody....

USB 2.0 is faster but some people use LPT simply because its there and won't take up a USB port...

Parallel is slower than USB 1 (12mbps) which is much slower than USB 2 (480mbps)...

So use USB 2.0.. But really, it doesn't matter that much for a printer.. Use whatever is convenient.

That's what I was thinking. I know USB is faster, but for printing does it really matter? Maybe if you are sending huge bitmaps or something, but word docs and spreadsheets....i just don't know if there is a noticable difference.

2mbps vs 12mbps

Only really makes a difference in terms of CPU usage and if you have a scanner an are scanning something big

USB 2 is faster but doubt a printer would be able to use all 480mbps bandwidth which comes out to about 50MB/s. The old thinking was parallel is faster, not anymore everything is going serial.

Parelled w/ ECP is faster that than USB 1.1 but slower than 2.0 most printers are "high speed" usb or some such, ie usb2.0 compatible but run at 1.1 speeds, so unless your printer is a true USB 2.0 printer paraell may actualy be faster, but unless you are printing images or PDFs it isn't really going to matter.
