Anyone else have the IE9 RC installed and running into a problem trying to stream video from Netflix in Media Center? Since I installed the RC this afternoon I get a javascript error whenever I click 'Play' on a selection. Just trying to find whether someone else has it, or whether someone has used Netflix on Media Center successfully since installing it.

I think it is having problems with netflix in general because i'm not running media center, but i can't get netflix to play anything on windows 7 with IE9 RC. It doesn't even realize i have silverlight installed!!

Someone suggested installing an older version of silverlight but i'm not sure where exactly to get that.

I spoke to Netflix support, and while they hadn't heard about this specific issue, they did stress that they are not officially IE9 compatible. I uninstalled the IE9 update and Netflix worked as usual. I like IE9, but I like Netflix better, so I'll wait.

Netflix is a partner of Microsoft's, for multiple platforms (Windows, Xbox, Phone, etc). As such, Netflix is part of each platform's test pass. If bugs are found that cannot be fixed in the browser, Netflix is notified...and like all partners, Netflix is notified during Beta if there are any sev=1 or prio=1 issues they should be aware of so they don't get negative customer feedback out of nowhere.

Either that particular person wasn't clued in, or you got some smoke.

There were several issues reported publicly during IE9 beta concerning Silverlight. My guess is that they're "still working on it"...

Not sure I get your point. By "not officially compatible" she would have meant that their release version doesn't support IE9, which is certainly true based on my experience. She was front-line support so I wouldn't infer anything more from it than: "Ooh, sorry, I don't have a script here for IE9 problems."

I decided to check this on my PC, I had to install the Netflix add-in first. Sure enough Netflix in WMC isn't working with IE9 RC1 installed.

EDIT:

Ok, I was able to watch Netflix in the browser (IE9 RC1).

The good news is I had no problems after uninstalling the update, so they got that right.

Not sure I get your point.

You stated, "and while they hadn't heard about this specific issue".

My point: they know about it. If MS didn't tell them before the beta release, Netflix either figured it out on their own during their own internal testing with the five month old beta, or MS external beta testers told them about it months ago and they confirmed.

"It doesn't work at all" doesn't go on for this long without anybody at Netflix finding out that their paying customers have no service with a publicly available browser...especially a browser from Microsoft, their closest partner.

I have no idea why this speculation is important, but ok.

Edit: reposted without seeing Valkyrie-MTs post above. The fix in the link posted is confirmed.
