IE9 Issues With Discussion Forums

Luddite

Senior member
I belong to a lot of different discussion forums on different topics. Lately I've had problems accessing all of these forums, as well as viewing new posts. I've come to believe it's most likely an IE9 issue (but not 100% sure).

Normally what happens on every discussion forum is when I view a thread post and decide to reply to that post, I click on 'reply'. It then redirects me to the log in screen; where, after I log in my username and password, I get directed to the reply form. I type my reply post and submit. My reply appears on the forum.

What's been happening lately is after I log in my username and password I get redirected not to the reply form, but back to the log in screen. And I have to repeatedly log in. It's maddening.

Also, once I've managed to figure out a way around the redirect (by logging in and out a few times or clicking back and forth between main page and thread page) the post I've made and submitted doesn't show up amongst the threads. Only if I log out and view the most recent posts as a lurker does my post appear amongst the most recent threads. Otherwise I don't seem to be able to view the post I've just submitted without a lot of logging in and out or clicking around.

I've rebooted my Win 7 system several times, re-set IE9 to defaults, but the issues persist. This happens on every internet discussion forum (including Anandtech). It's getting so frustrating, and I can't seem to figure out the problem.

Could this be an issue with the way IE9 is caching web pages?

Try with another browser just to rule out IE9. It does sound like it's not remembering the cookies or something though.

Come to think of it, no reason to use IE in this day and age with all the better alternatives out there such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and I have a feeling I'm missing one.

The first thing I did was clear my temporary files.

Now I notice when I click on the 'quote' button it also redirects me to the log-in screen.

Don't want to switch browsers if I can help it, I like the way IE integrates with Win 7.

Do you use the pinning tabs feature with the OS integrations?

Can you check some of your Internet Options?
General Tab -> Browsing History -> Settings -> What is the "Check for newer versions of stored pages:" setting set to, and what is the "Current Location" of your temporary internet files folder?

Privacy Tab -> What is the slider at the top set to? (Ex: Medium, High, Custom)

Try changing the bolded one to "every time I visit the webpage" and see if there is any improvement.

Bingo! That did the trick, thanks.

Didn't think 'automatically' would make that much of a difference from 'every time I visit the webpage'. Not even sure what the technical difference is.

Thanks again.
