IE7 worth it?

I've tried twice and can't seem to find half the stuff I need. Other IE upgrades were seemless as I recall, but not 7. I would like the extra safety features but find IE7 not user friendly. Is it just me?

I have had no problems with it since it came out of Beta.

I am not a user of all the bells and whistles though and only have on add-on (spell checker)

I don't care for it so much. It's mostly because it's unfamiliar, and they've moved the buttons around, but I've really gotten used to my FireFox extensions. I generally only use IE7 for Windows updates.

Don't bother, just get firefox or opera and never look back.

I'd recommend getting IE updated to IE7 even if you plan to use FireFox or Opera.

Out of curiosity, when you say

can't seem to find half the stuff I need

...what "stuff" can't you find, exactly?

I suggest Maxthon. It's an IE wrapper with so many security and interface enhancements, I con't possibly begin to list them. I've been using it for 5 years and more recently the beta 2, which is coming along nicely.

I'll tell you what: If you don't like it, I'll personally reimburse you the license fee. 😀

What I couldn't find is the simple mail icon and I forgot what few others and like one person said, they moved stuff around and made things harder to find. I'm thinking about useing firefox and Win. I hear Firefox is safer but would like to read an article about it to see the real advantages. But if I keep IE, even for the updates, I'd like to have the security advantages of IE7.

Maybe the icon you want is simply not one of the default ones. Try right-clicking the command bar and chosing Customize Command Bar > Add/Remove Commands, perhaps? You can also unlock the toolbars and slide them where you want them (as always) if stuff is simply out of sight for lack of room.

It's a safe bet that any browser you pick will be a security liability at some point, so if you're trying for security, consider running your browser (regardless of what browser) at non-Admin level. more security suggestions including enabling Data Execution Prevention, eliminating commonly-exploited vulnerabilities, and using non-Admin user accounts.

it installs just fine.
i don't like the interface. but i upgrade it to keep surfing safe even though its just my fall back browser for when firefox fails on some stupid site.

i have IE7 due to the secuirty problems in IE6. i use Opera though. for that site in a million that doesn't work with opera, i use ie7.

I like IE7 because f speedy rendering than Firefox that I had on my old notebook I think it is Firefox 1 I cant remember anyway I prefer to stick it because I don't browsing any dangerous websites

Install IE7 just because there's no sense in having unpatched security holes on your machine (ie: IE6) for no reason.

That said, there's no reason to actually use the damn thing. Tons of people are in love with Firefox, there are less people in love with Opera (but there are still some of us floating about), Maxthon has been referenced... use another browser.

Actually there is, I can think of plenty 😉 Central management, configuration, policy enforcement, updating and auditing. Microsoft: had it for years. Competition: still nothing. Most home users have no idea what this means to someone with lots of computers to maintain and keep out of harms' way, with or without the users' cooperation. Windows Server Update Services, Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer, and Group Policy make it a snap with IE5, IE6 or IE7.

On Vista, IE also enjoys Protected Mode. Competition: nothing (yet).

But anyway, use what you like ...and run it as a non-Admin

Pros: Everything.

Cons: Your too lazy to learn anything new.

Install it and get used to it. There is no reason not to.

Might try this add on too. I find it very useful.

I've tried to tolerate IE7, but it's just so damn slow...it's runs like you're outta RAM, yet you have oodles to spare.
Also looks hideous.

I'd have to recommend Firefox still.

I use IETab in Firefox Portable to elude even occasional IE usage!

I recommend Opera. Crazy fast, and great on resources.

I used to be a huge Opera fan, but ever since Firefox 2 I've switched over. The newest release candidate for Firefox puts it even further ahead of Opera IMO.

IE is sort of required...many things you just can't use without it.

IE7 defaults security too high. We have been getting a lot of calls through out the enterprise on sites that stop working or work incorrectly due to the security settings.

You're comparing IE7 to FF 1? Wow. Try Firefox 3.0 RC1. It's very fast.
