Still has a long way to go, but IE7 Beta 2 is feeling pretty solid now. From running B2 Preview from the last month, I can say that Beta 2 crashes much less, and has fixed a lot of little annoying bugs (dropdown menus are IE6 sized again! YAY! And no more 1 minute page time outs).

I'm actually using it as my primary browser over Firefox... but I still use firefox for those less savory sites that would eat IE for lunch. :)

I never really had any problems with the Beta 2 preview (the one released March 20ish), but the latest release seems to be doing a pretty good job. I've been using IE7 as my "primary" browser since Beta 1.

The biggest "problem" is that there are quite a few sites out there that check the user agent and dont allow IE7 (This site is designed for IE6 or greater! - very annoying). Fortunetly I can hit most of those sites with Firefox so I'm not locked out.

See, I haven't had the latter problem. The main problems I have is content not displaying properly in IE7. The most annoying problem was the hard lock on page timeouts. I have some database pages that can take several minutes to process the submission before returning a response. Preview 2 would always time out after 1 minute no matter what (on any page).

The only lingering problem I have, IE7 seems to start to slow down with use, to the point where you have to close it and open a new copy to get it working again.

I havent had that problem, and I've got it open with several tabs all day long. I wonder if it's plug-in related.

Well, it doesn't slow to a lock... it just gets really slow. Takes a long time to open new pages etc. Whereas I can open a fresh instance of IE or Firefox and the page loads instantly (no cache).

To what? IE? Too lazy to type in www.microsoft.com are you?
Wasn't sure if they had the latest release posted or if they still had beta2preview up. :p
I'll tell you here in a minute, installing now over my build 5335.5....

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx

EDIT: Yep, new version is at link above. Now running 5346.5. A couple of minor visual changes I see, nothing major. Hopefully things are better under the hood as well.

You need to uninstall any previous versions of IE7 before installing Beta2. On XP SP2, make sure to check the 'show updates' box in add/remove programs to make the IE7 install visible.

The download site has step by step instructions on what to do.
It is best to actually read the info on the download page before attempting the install.

Does it use mouse gestures? I use them so much (in opera) that having them (or not) is pretty much a deal breaker for me.

Actually, the install will not even let you continue until you uninstall the previous IE7 version.

This new build is even better.. and I was liking the beta 2 preview..

ive always thought FF was a pile. Opera kicked its ass all over the place to begin with.. but now IE is back in the game and since its IE it gets an automatic 10 points for rendering everything right the first time (I dont give a damn if someone doenst know proper W3C coding.. just render the page right.. Thank you Bill Gates!)

Amazing isn't it? I'm not usually one to follow this advice, but RTFM is important here. I sortof figured that out since it was in BIG BOLD PRINT on the page regarding upgrade instructions. :)

On a couple of my machines it didnt show up under the XP SP2 tree (like the other windows updates) I had to look for it on the list. I think it was labled something like "Microsoft Internet Explorer Beta 2 preview"
