hello,
i have installed a new system at my church. we have our own server, so every one of our computers are on a network. my question is, i have one in the childrens church that they use for logging in students for awana classes. but, we do not want them to have access to the internet. the last i heard was, ie is intergrated into the operating system. so, i need to know how to prevent students from being able to get on the internet, but at the same time, it cannot be able to effect all the other systems. we are running win xp. i hope i have explained myself good enough. if you need further, please ask. thanks for all the help in advance. have a great night and GOD BLESS

Do you have an outgoing firewall that you can just block traffic on port 80 for those machines? Or can you just hide the shortcuts to IE (how smart are these kids?)?

put sygate firewall on it and add IE to the list of programs not allowed to access the net and then password sygate to where they cant change settings?

they could just kill the process probably and get around it.

failsafe would be to just block the port at the router/firewall level.

This is a church!?

Well then hide IE, then allow set permissions for it. Only allow someone with the password access it. Right click and go to security.

I would HIGHLY advise that you do not get rid of it. Everything about XP is focused around IE. I got rid of it once, and nothing will work properly... no outlook, or outlook express, no windows update, now watching yahoo music videos... just leave it and only allow people with proper codes to use it.
