I have xp home and all updates (well may be a month behind on updates, but so are the rest of the computers mentioned below) I installed norton internet securities about a week ago, got all of the updates and scanned, also scanned w/spybot today. All of the sudden my puter will not load certain pages, like my bank statement. And the other 2 computers in my home will, meaning the pages are valid and the server is working. If I right click on the link on this computer it says "a conn w/the server could not be established" It looks to me like it don't even try because it pops up so fast. I have tried emptying the temp files including all cookies and history. As far as I know I haven't changed anything since it worked well. It only happens on certain pages, I can cruise the net pretty well otherwise. What should I do?
Thanks,
DR

he may be on to something, in the help menu, click about internet explorer and check your cipher strength, if its anything less than 128 bit you might want to update that from microsoft

Search for your Hosts file. Open it in Notepad and look at it carefully. Do see lines other than 127.0.0.1 localhost without an # symbol in front of them? If so, the IP addresses shown on those lines are blocked. That may be what's preventing you from accessing those sites.

Additionally, if your system time is significantly incorrect, that'll keep you from accessing certain sites too (try accessing Windows Update with your year incorrectly set, for example :)). And if your HOSTS file contains a jillion things then you may also experience problems. I ran into that with my mom's system after installing Spybot S&D 1.3's HOSTS file... dial-up took about 5 minutes and generated lots of Event Viewer errors. Revert to the stock Microsoft HOSTS file, problem go *poof* :)
