IE6 Slows Down Video - AFTER IT CLOSES!

After a couple months of using IE6, I'm still having an unusual problem. After web browsing using IE6, and closing the browser, my video screen redraws are much slower! Windows which close instantly before browsing (like the My Documents window) "step" closed slowly. I can stop the problem by resetting the screen color depth from 16 to 32 bit (or the other way around) using the video properties on the fly. But that's a pain to do after each time on the web! Clearly, IE6 or something it loads is messing up the video settings somehow.

I've posted this problem before, and still haven't found an answer to it. Anyone with a suggestion?

Video is ASUS V7700, Win98SE. Tried multiple drivers.

IE6 defintely slows down your WINDOWS interface. i wish i never upgraded to IE6 because IE5 had no lag at all when opening new IE5 windows... my system will be rather boggy when i go over 15 IE6 windows. i have 1gig of DDR RAM and an ASUS 7700 64MB GTS.
what a sad thing to see in win2k.
