Finally got tired of putting up with the errors, so I went looking.

Found the solution for MOST IE5.5 ActiveX errors on loading websites....

comcat.dll is usually the wrong version on your system.

Fix: While running IE5.5 on the page to download and install IE 5.5 up...

1) Start --> Run --> "Regsvr32 /u c:\winnt\system32\comcat.dll" This unregisters the current comcat.dll

2) Go to the "System32" sub-directory under the root WinNT directory and rename comcat.dll to comcat.old (or something else).

3) Re-Install IE5.5 ....Start the IE5.5 download and install. Choose run from current location. Choose "Custom". Under the component selection, choose ONLY the IE5.5 browser selection (I know it's in bold, select it anyway). Click through to install. It will tell you that it's already installed and recommend exiting. Ignore! Choose "Re-install all components" It really shouldn't take too long to downlaod, as most of the components etc are "recoverable" from the initial install (unless you found and deleted the install directory). In any case, let it do its thing.

4) When it is complete it will tell you to restart your system.... For safety, close all applications in the task bar and systray EXCEPT your dial-up networking connection and your browser. Then click the OK to restart.

When you sys restarts it will complete the setup.... Now go to one of those sites that was giving you "unsafe ActiveX control" errors.... They should be gone.

BTW, in addition to getting rid of those errors, I am experiencing a DRAMATIC increase in page loading speeds!!! :)

Hope this helps.... I know a lot of folks have been avoiding IE5.5 because of these type errors.... Go ahead and upgrade now.
