IE5.5 download or not

I always wanted to see how does IE 5.5 is like, but a lot of my friends told me that IE5.5 crashes your computer a lot.. so i thought that i could ask you guys for suggestions, should I d/l it?

What are the benefits of using IE5.5 and what's the disadvantage of using it?

I have IE5.5 on my WIN98 system and my WIN2k system. I have not had any problems. If you do download, make sure to get the IE5.5 SP1 also..

I've been running IE5.5 on Win98SE and Win2K for a while now with no problems. Like gittyup said, be sure you also download the service packs and security patches.

get 5.0 if you can. it's got just about all the features that 5.5 has, but renders pages faster. dunno why it slowed down in 5.5

Dude.. you should upgrade... 5.0 is good, but as for 5.5... there is no reason to get it or not.. but 4.0 to me sucks

IE5.5 is working great on my system no lockups or any crashes(quite rare for a IE browser)anyway try IE5.5 &amp; see for yourself.

For those 5.5 users who don't understand, go to Hard OCP then scroll up and down. Notice how choppy it is near the top, but smooth after that? Thats because 5.5 is slow at rendering that flash menu on the right side. When the flash menu is off the screen, it smoothens out, because slow-ass 5.5 doesn't have to render it anymore. 5.0 and below don't suffer from the slow down. Microsoft Fuked up something when they were coding 5.5.

So get 5.0 not 5.5, if you have the choice. Microsoft has this obsession with making ppl use their latest software so it might be difficult to find 5.0.

I have 5.5 (came with road runner) and winme. There are some sites like pcmech that where can't use the forum because of a very bad lock up. The problem is rare but consistent among the sites that do lock up the browser. I can ctrl+alt+del out of it, but am disabled from restarting the computer normally because it never entirely shuts down. Anyway to use 5.0 with road runner? (I sometimes resort to netscape, but don't like it).

I got a free copy of the IE 5.5 update on my video card driver CD. I updated it but I didn't really notice any difference except I now had 128 bit encryption and the icon that spins around in the top-right corner seemed to stop spinning, even when pages were still loading.

I've gone back to IE 5.
