I cannot figure out what's happening with this machine. I've run adaware, spybot, antivirus, looked through every report generated. Only thing I found was popcaploader, which I purged from the system yesterday, and it's still doing it. Every so often, usually several times an hour, one, several, or all open IE windows will close on their own. Just disappear. No other windows, only IE.

Any ideas? This is damned annoying. :|

Run those spyware scans in safe mode (make sure they are updated). Also, try doing a virus scan in safe mode with updated definitions.

6. Spouse is bringing home 7 on his laptop from work (no broadband at home.) He's thinking IE has been 'hijacked', from what he's managed to find out online. We'll be installing a new firewall after the upgrade.

Did that when I got home this afternoon and spybot found something in the registry:

hkey_users\s-1-5-21-14090802233-725345543-83952215-1004\software\microsoft\internet explorer\main\feature control\feature_localmachine_lockdown\iexplore.exe!=W=1

or something like that (wrote it down on paper.)

The half-hour that I was online yesterday before upgrading to IE 7, I had no problems with windows closing. Today, with IE 7, every time I use the feature "open in new tab", it closes all IE windows, but with "open in new window" I haven't had any close yet.

I use IE 6 and Netscape 7.2! I won't try the new stuff till all their quirks have been addressed.
No problems there.

I also swapped out my RAM and that solved my problem of Windows shutting down and reopening again and again.

In the past, I had problems with cheap PSUs until I finally wised up. Use only Fortron, Enermax or Seasonic is my foundation now.

There is usually an answer to fix a particular problem, but a diagnosis online is hit or miss. Good luck though.
